He kissed me then, his mouth demanding and passionate until I didn’t know where he ended, and I began. When he released me, he cupped my face in his hands. “No matter what, I’m yours. Now and forever, Luxy. You are my everything. And whatever life throws at us, we’ll get through it together. Because it’s you and me always and forever. Okay?”

“You love me, don’t you?” I asked lightly, though my heart was racing.

“Fuck yeah, Luxy. I love you.”

I kissed him lightly. “I’m so glad because I love you too.” I kissed my way up to his ear. “Now, Doctor Jensen,” I whispered, hoping he’d get what I was doing. “I know I’m just a patient, but I was hoping you could show me how to work your… stethoscope.”

He laughed, kissing the skin where my shoulder met my neck and sending tingles along every one of my nerves. “That goes against all the rules,” he said, nipping my skin lightly. “But for you, I’ll make an exception.” One of his hands cupped my breast over the robe. “But only if you promise to ride my cock while I demonstrate.”

I shivered with pleasure. “I’m going to ride you so fucking hard.”

Epilogue: Three Years Later

LUX

I steppedoutside the back door of our beach house and watched daddy and daughter play in the surf against the setting sun. My heart ached with such happiness I thought it might burst. A few months after I got out of the hospital, I met Rush’s parents. They started out guarded but quickly warmed up to me when we shared the news that I was pregnant. We spent a glorious evening together until I was helping his mom in the kitchen. She told me about Rush’s sister and that she’d died, giving me the how and the why. Tears streamed down my face for my husband and all he’d lost. Yet he’d chosen me.

“What’s wrong?” she’d asked with concern.

I didn’t want to tell her about my past, about how I’d nearly died the same way as her daughter, especially since it was such a happy occasion. So, I quickly dried my face. “It’s nothing.” I shook my head, taking a deep breath.

“Pregnancy hormones,” she’d said, and handed me a tissue. “It’s going to be okay.”

And I knew it would be.

In the months after that, Clint was sentenced to twenty-five years in prison for his crimes and others Rush hadn’t even known about. The great thing was they gave Rush back the money Clint stole, including the huge amount in the offshore accounts. We had more than we would ever need and thankfully Rush’s Motorcycles was still doing great. People came from all over to have him work on their bikes.

“Hey, Gorgeous,” Rush called, interrupting my thoughts.

I waved back but he was already after Mira. She was running along the beach, her chunky legs carrying her toward the water.

“Mira,” Rush called, sweeping the baby into his arms, and kissing her chubby cheeks. “Where do you think you’re going, baby girl?”

She giggled and wiggled in his arms. “Water, daddy.”

I glanced back at our beach house before heading toward my two most favorite people. On the way over, I saw Tangerine Sanders and some of her friends horsing around in the sand. She waved when she saw me.

“Dinner still on for tomorrow night, y’all?” she called, smiling, her eyes dancing in the low light.

“Wouldn’t miss it,” I said. We’d become great friends with the woman. It was nice to hang out with other people our own age, even if they were still single.

“We’ll be there,” Rush added when I reached him and our child.

“Cool, see you guys. Have a great night.”

“You too,” I called, tugging on Mira’s perfectly sandy toes.

Mira was our little miracle, which was why we named her Mira. I wasn’t supposed to be able to have children, but my body decided to show us that miracles happened every day. Rush liked to tease that he had power sperm, but I was just grateful for the opportunity to share an amazing child with him.

“Ready to eat, Mira?” I asked, lightly tickling her tummy.

Rush wrapped one arm around me, tugging me to him. “I know I am,” he said into my hair, causing my knees to quiver. I knew what he meant, and his comment had nothing to do with food.

Mira reached out for me, and I took her. “Sweetest girl. Were you having fun with daddy?”

“Water. Mommy. Play.”

“We can play tomorrow. But, right now, we’re going to eat, get you a bath, and then read you a story before sleep.” I glanced at Rush and smiled as we made our way back to the house. “Then it’s my turn to play with daddy.”
