Chapter 11

Saxton~

As much as I wanted to keep an eye on Kincaid, she wasn’t the one wearing next to nothing. Though her tank top could cover a bit more, she was fully dressed, and she couldn’t help what nature had gifted her with. Hastings, on the other hand…

Now, did she look beautiful? Abso-fucking-lutely.

However, she also looked like she was trolling for dick, and that was a problem. I’ve been denying myself too long because of the dynamics of her being Kincaid’s roommate, and the fact that I wasn’t entirely certain if she liked me or not, but there was no way I could stay at this party and ignore what she did to me.

I also couldn’t ignore the other issue about tonight. Fox was with me, and Kincaid was going to throw a fit. The fact that I’ve never lied to her was the only thing that was going to save my ass tonight. After our conversation earlier, she was probably going to assume that I’d invited him, but I hadn’t. In a pure chance of coincidence, I had bumped into him outside. I hadn’t planned on drinking, so I had driven myself, and Fox must have been of the same mind, because I’d ran into him a block down the road after he had pulled his car in behind mine on the street.

Not giving a fuck about small talk, he had quickly asked me if I was here for Kincaid, and I hadn’t been about to lie to the guy. When I had confirmed that she was the reason that I was here, the dude’s entire body had locked up in a way that spelled trouble. He’d said that he’d been here to blow off some steam after the past few weeks, but I was pretty sure that his agenda had changed the second that I’d told him that Kincaid was going to be here.

Making our way to the two girls, I knew it looked as if we were just two more swinging dicks throwing our hats in the ring, but I didn’t care about that. Not many people knew that Kincaid was my best friend, and we had done that on purpose. Her brother’s death had changed a lot of things, and our friendship had been one of those things. Our history would show that we’d been close friends since the second grade, but that our friendship had fallen off when we were fifteen. Only a handful of people knew that we were still best friends, Hastings being one of them.

Walking up, Fox was quick to let his displeasure be known. Kincaid and Hastings had been talking to a girl and three guys, and while it had looked innocent enough, Fox had problems when it came to Kincaid. Besides, the only way that these guys wouldn’t be interested in Kincaid and Hastings would be if they were gay or in love.

Eyeing every single guy in their group, Fox snapped, “Do you mind?”

I glanced over at Kincaid, and her eyes were on fire at his audacity. “Is there a problem?” she asked him.

His hazel eyes shot her a withering look. “As a matter of fact, there is,” he replied before turning his attention back on the guys in the group. “Anyone here care to find out what it is?”

I almost laughed. All three guys quickly threw their hands up in surrender, and even the girl looked terrified.

“Uh, no,” she stammered.

“Nope,” said Guy #1.

“It’s all good,” Guy #2 replied quickly.

“Uh, I’m just going…to…yeah…” stammered Guy #3, and I couldn’t really blame them. After all, this was Fox Harrington they were dealing with.

As soon as they took off, Kincaid was unleashing her wrath. “Are you out of your mind,” she whisper-yelled. “What is your problem?”

Fox was in her face with no concern to how many phones might be out right now. “You’re my fucking problem,” he growled. “One that I’ve ignored for far too long.”

“Uh-”

Not wanting Hastings to get on Fox’s bad side, I turned to her and let my alpha loose. “Do you want to tell me why the fuck you’re practically naked?”

Hastings multi-colored orbs widened. “Excuse me?”

I gestured towards her sorry excuse for a dress. “Why bother at all?”

She glanced over at Kincaid, but she was too busy whisper-arguing with Fox to notice. When Hastings looked back my way, shock had been replaced by angry narrowed eyes, and she asked, “What business is it of yours anyway?”

“I’m making it my business,” I told her. “Do you even have anything on underneath that sorry excuse for a dress?”

Her head reared back, and I knew I was pissing her off, but I was done being Mr. Nice Guy where Hastings was concerned. While this was something that I should have spoken to Kincaid about first, that damn dress had changed everything. Plus, as long as I didn’t get her pregnant, The Order couldn’t say anything about who I chose to date. As long as I wasn’t marrying her, it wasn’t any of their business.

“Last I checked, you weren’t my father, brother, or boyfriend,” Hastings snapped. “If my dress bothers you, leave. No one is holding you hostage here.”

Before I could comment, Kincaid was hissing like a deadly viper. “I’m leaving. I don’t need this shit.”

“If you think I’m letting you off the hook, you’re sorely mistaken,” Fox fired back. “If you want to leave, then you’re leaving with me.”

Ignoring him, Kincaid turned my way. “Saxton, take me home.”
