“I only did it because-”

“I don’t care why you did it, Ms. Spinner,” Alexander practically roared. “You were warned. After that distasteful display with Mrs. Lexington, you were warned to watch your step and to honor the traditions of The Order.”

“I’m sorry,” she cried out, the tears forming. “It wasn’t-”

“Stop,” Alexander bit out. “You are done here, Ms. Spinner.” Laney let out an anguished gasp while the rest of us were practically holding our breaths. “For the simple fact that Mrs. Carmichael is an outsider, and you hadn’t been working to come between a husband and his wife, your family will be spared, though you are done.”

“No!” she cried out. “That’s not fair-”

“Get her out of here,” Alexander instructed, but before anyone could comply with his wishes, Laney was losing it.

“August Remington, I swear to God-”

“That’s enough, Laney!” August yelled, shutting her up.

“No!” she yelled back. “You better-”

“Shut the fuck up!” he roared. “You’re just making it worse!”

“I don’t-”

“Alexander, I’ll take responsibility for her,” August announced, and Laney immediately shut up.

Glancing over at the guys, it was easy to see that we were all sharing the same uneasy feeling. Taking responsibility for your support was huge. It meant that August was willing to take ownership of all her fuckups. If Laney stepped out of line-even once-August would be ousted alongside her if The Order took such action.

Whatever Laney had on August, it was big.

“Very well,” Alexander replied. “Her transgressions are now yours, so I suggest you have a nice, long, serious chat with Ms. Spinner, and soon, Mr. Remington.”

“Understood,” August replied.

Then looking at Jennifer, he said, “Since the trust between the member and his supporter has been broken, you are no longer of any use to us, Ms. Polk.”

“Wh…what?” she screeched.

“Because Mr. and Mrs. Carmichael were married after your interference, and you hadn’t come between a husband and his wife, we will spare your family, but you are done,” he continued. “Your dreams are now your own to achieve.”

“But-”

“However, the NDAs will be in effect for the duration of your natural lifespan, Ms. Polk. Please, keep that in mind.”

Jennifer was a shaken mess. “But…this is all Laney’s fault. This is-”

“That’s enough!” Alexander roared. Turning to eye us all, he said, “While it might seem as if I am not in control of this initiating class, I can assure that is not the case. Continue on as you have been, and you will see just how worse things can get.”

Before any of us could comment, Alexander was storming out of the building with Arlene, Donovan, and Jacob in tow.

Well, fuck.
