“Mr. Lexington did no such thing,” Alexander denied. “His contract with Mrs. Lexington was his right. He did nothing untoward to secure his marriage to his wife.”

Her ire was back on Alexander. “Oh, please,” she sneered. “They’ve been undermining your so-called authority from the beginning, and everyone in this room knows it.”

She wasn’t wrong, but I certainly wasn’t going to comment on it.

“I’m not sure where you got the idea that your opinion matters, but it doesn’t, Ms. Spinner,” Alexander snarled. “You are done here.”

The girl didn’t have the sense God gave a rock because she turned to August and threatened him in front of everyone. “If you do not fix this now, I’m telling everyone everything.”

“Ms. Spinner, if you violate your contract with Mr. Remington, we will have no choice but to follow through on the fallout of such a decision,” Alexander told her. “We will make an example out of you.”

Laney lifted her chin, and there wasn’t anything quite like a woman scorned. “You are all going to regret this,” she hissed. “I swear it.” Before anyone could comment, she was storming out of the building, Jacob hot on her heels, no doubt making sure that she was leaving.

When Jacob came back into the building, Alexander followed the proper protocol for situations like this. “Mr. Remington, you will need to move forward with vetting possible candidates for another supporter. Of course, your new selection will have to be approved by the initiating panel before any contracts are signed, considering.”

“Why do I need to choose one, but Ross doesn’t?” he asked, and the guy might be down, but he wasn’t out.

“Mr. Carmichael is a married man now,” Alexander answered. “He is past the point of needed a contractual supporter as far as The Order is concerned.”

“Then by that logic, Saxton is no longer in need of Kincaid,” August replied. “And with Alexis gone, then Fox needs to find a new supporter, too.”

“Mr. Voss was committed to Ms. Black before his marriage to Mrs. Voss,” Alexander pointed out. “The situations are not the same.”

“And what about Fox?” he challenged. “He’s not married.”

“Mr. Remington-”

“This is bullshit, Alexander,” he snarled. “It’s bullshit, and you know it.”

“Mr. Remington, you know the rules just as well as everyone else in this room,” he calmly replied.

“Then Fox better choose someone new, too.”

“The fuck I will,” I said, finally chiming in. After all, they were talking about me.

Alexander turned to look my way. “Mr. Harrington-”

“I don’t need a supporter,” I told him. I had Kincaid, though I didn’t say that out loud.

“The rules dictate that you do,” he countered.

“I can be his supporter,” Kincaid offered.

Alexander shot her a look. “No, you cannot, Ms. Black.”

“If anyone gets Kincaid, it should be me,” August announced, and I lost it.

I had him by his shirt, one second away from beating him within an inch of his life, when I felt people pulling me back, my guess was Jacob, Alexander, and Donovan. The rest of the guys would have let me kick his ass.

“You’ll never get anywhere near her,” I spat, still trying to get to him. It wasn’t until Kincaid was standing in front of me that I calmed down a bit.

“Love?” I looked down at her, that word transporting me back in time. “We got this, okay?”

It was a quick reminder that we had bigger issues to worry about than a pointless wish that was never going to be granted. There was no way Saxton would give Kincaid up to August. In The Order’s eyes, Kincaid belonged to Saxton and that was that.

I stepped back in line with the others, letting everyone know that I was fine.

“I think it’s best to resume this meeting after tempers have calmed,” Alexander announced. “But Mr. Remington and Mr. Harrington, start thinking of possible candidates for your replacements.”

Like fuck I would.
