Chapter 8

Fox~

I wasn’t sure what I was feeling right now, but it felt a lot like rage. Granted, it’d been feeling it since last night, so maybe the ‘right now’ didn’t need to be added.

The fucked-up part about it all was that I understood it. I understood wanting to avenge your brother. Hell, Cotton was a dick, but if someone killed him, I’d be out for blood, too. Kincaid being the type of person that she was, it was a wonder she hadn’t just started shooting up the streets.

So, this wasn’t about that.

This was about love.

This was about trust.

Kincaid had neither for me, and I was pretty sure that she never had.

“Help me understand this,” I said, not caring about our audience. It wasn’t like they didn’t already know that we were fucked-up. “You left me because…?”

Kincaid stood up, then walked towards me because the girl didn’t know how not to be confrontational. “When Saxton called me to tell me that he could officially name me as his supporter, he also told me who would be initiated with him. He knew about you, so…he thought I should know.”

“Nice to know that he knew about me when I didn’t know fuck all about him,” I bit out.

Ignoring my remark, she continued with her bullshit explanation. “Once I knew that you were on that list, what choice did I have?” she asked. “How was I expected to sleep beside you every night, knowing that I was on a mission to ruin your future.”

“My future?”

“The Order is-”

“My future?!” I roared down at her.

Three years of pain, resentment, anger, jealousy, and confusion erupted from deep within my tortured soul, and there was no coming back from it. Saxton had been right all along; Kincaid had been doing nothing but warming my bed because that’s all I’d been doing for her.

“You were my future,” I spat. “Nothing mattered more than you did. Nothing would have made me love you less. Nothing would have been worth losing you over.” I was so angry that I was vibrating with the rage boiling in my blood. “I would have followed you into Hell if it meant being with you. So, I definitely would have joined you in avenging your brother if you had just asked.”

“I wasn’t going to ask you to jeopardize-”

“Jeopardize what?” I raged, so infuriated that I could hardly speak. “But I guess that’s the real issue here, huh?”

“What are you talking about?”

“If you loved me as much as I loved you back then, you would have known that I wasn’t jeopardizing shit,” I seethed. “You would have known that I would have chosen you. You would have known that I would have stood by you, no matter what.”

“That’s not fair,” she shot back.

“Fair?” I stared down at her, wishing I could hate her. “You dare to talk to me about fair, Kincaid?”

“Look, I-”

“And what about Saxton?” I asked her. “What about his future?”

Shame dance across her beautiful face, and it was scary how violent I felt. “Saxton has a plan-B. That was the first thing we did when we decided on this path.”

The laugh I let out was dark and ugly. “Of course, you made sure to protect Saxton.”

“Fox-”

“Because you love Saxton,” I sneered. “Because you love Saxton, and it’s clear as day now that you never loved me.”

“That’s not true,” she lied.
