Chapter 26

Fox~

I was going crazy, and I was quite surprised, honestly. You’d think that I’d be used to being in this state of mind, but I wasn’t sure there was any getting use to Kincaid fucking Black.

After my little heart-to-heart with Alexander, I’d gone back to my place, packed a few more things, then came straight to her condo. According to her texts, she should have been home hours ago.

Spoil alert: she wasn’t.

The worst part about it was that her phone was here. There was no way to get a hold of her, and I had no idea how parents hadn’t lost their minds back during the days before cellphones. How did you just allow your child to go somewhere with only the hope that nothing would happen to them?

Jesus Christ.

Ten seconds away from calling Voss again, the sounds of the front door opening had me racing out of the bedroom, ready to strangle the fuck out of Kincaid.

My feet stopped in their tracks the second that I got a good look at her. While she looked absolutely fine, her eyes had a wild look in them, and I was afraid to ask why.

Kincaid reached for the hem of her t-shirt, then pulled it up over her head, causing me to ask, “What’s wrong, baby?”

As calm as could be, she said, “I need you to wash my clothes.”

My eyes took in her appearance, and while she looked a bit messy, she wasn’t dirty. “Okay.”

“When you’re done, can you clean my shoes?” she asked, and now the hairs on the back of my neck were standing up. “But not the soles. Just dust those off a bit, making sure to leave them looking used.”

Kincaid was standing in front of me, completely naked, and for the first time ever, my dick wasn’t hard and fighting to get inside her.

Nope.

I was terrified as fuck.

“What did you do, Kincaid?”

Ignoring me, she headed towards the bedroom, and ignoring her instructions, I followed her. She had her phone in her hands, her fingers flying a mile a minute.

When she was done doing whatever the fuck she was doing, she looked over at me. “I need to take a shower, but…I’ll tell you everything when I’m done, okay?”

“No,” I snapped. “That’s not okay.”

“Fox, please,” she replied, her voice still calm and controlled. “Throw my clothes in the washer, make it a load if you can, then I promise we’ll talk.” Not bothering to wait for my response, she headed into the bathroom while I did as she asked.

Twenty minutes later, Kincaid was coming out of the bathroom, her hair wrapped up in a towel, a second towel wrapped around her body.

I was sitting on the bed, looking over at her. “What the fuck is going on, Kincaid?”

Paranoid beyond all reason, she grabbed my phone from where it’d been lying next to me, and she stuffed it under the mattress. Before I could ask her what the fuck she was doing, she did the same with her phone.

Two seconds away from losing my shit, she finally said, “I killed Donovan.”

I ran my hands through my hair and down my face and wished that I could say I was surprised, but I wasn’t.

I really, really wasn’t.

“What the fuck?” I hissed, standing up, completely unable to contain my anger.

In a voice that sounded like it was giving a goddamn weather forecast, casual and matter of fact, she told me how Donovan had called her, how she’d gone to meet him, and every single gory detail of how she had killed him.

I was so fucking enraged that my hands were shaking. Hell, my entire body was vibrating with enough anger to power a small country.
