“Fair enough,” my father replied. “I think that you’re bad for my son.”

“Whoa, hey-”

“No, let him finish,” Kincaid said, talking over me before she looked back over at my dad. “I want to hear this.”

“I think what you and Fox have is unstable, destructive, alarming, and unhealthy,” he went on and you could hear a fucking pin drop in the room. No one was moving or uttering a word. “I think this thing he has with you will end up ruining his life one day.”

I could feel heat crawling through my body in anger. “You don’t get to speak to her like that,” I snapped, taking my place next to her. “No one gets to speak to her like that.”

He let out a heavy sigh. “Son-”

“No, it’s okay,” Kincaid interrupted. “He’s just being honest. He was just honoring my request for the truth.”

I looked down at her. “Kincaid-”

Ignoring me, she looked up at my dad. “You’re right, Mr. Harrington,” she replied and everything in me turned cold.

“What the fuck?” I hissed.

Still ignoring me, Kincaid kept her eyes on my father. “What we have is unstable, destructive, alarming, and unhealthy.” My blood quickly cooled when she reached for my hand and threaded her fingers in mine. “But it’s also dangerous, manipulative, crazy, and all-consuming. We probably will end up ruining each other’s lives one day.” She shrugged a shoulder like she wasn’t spouting the most horrible description of our relationship. “But here’s the thing, Mr. Harrington. I love Fox enough to let him ruin my life. I love him enough to let him destroy every shred of humanity that I have left. And what’s more incredible than that? He loves me the same way.” Kincaid dropped my hand and stepped to my father, forcing him to actually have to take a step back. “So, what do you think would happen if anyone ever tried to come between us, Mr. Harrington? How do you see us responding to a threat like that? Who do you think Fox is going to choose? Who do you think I’m going to choose?”

My father straightened his back. “You’ve made your point, Kincaid.”

“I hope that I have,” she replied. “Because when it’s all said and done, I’m marrying your son. I will be the mother of your grandchildren, and I will be an unofficial member of the organization, whether you like it or not. With Fox as my husband, Saxton as my best friend, and Stone, Ross, Hastings, Rylee, and Sutton as my friends as well, The Order of the Cronus will never be rid of me.”

I didn’t fucking care.

I didn’t fucking care that we were surrounded by her father, my father, Jonathan Lexington, and Ansel Voss. I grabbed Kincaid by the back of her neck, pulled her around, then slammed my lips down on hers. The kiss was desperate, violent, and inappropriate, but I didn’t care.

I also didn’t care that she’d just described our relationship as a ticking time bomb. Kincaid was kissing me back with everything she was feeling, and everyone else could just go fuck themselves.

It wasn’t until Saxton came and separated us that my mind began to refocus again. Looking over at her father, I said, “I’m marrying her tonight, Mr. Black. I made all the arrangements last night.”

He looked at his daughter. “Is that so, Kincaid?”

She turned from me to look at her father. “Yes, it is.”

I looked over at my dad, his shoulders weak with defeat. “I don’t expect you to stay for it, Dad,” I told him. “Just know that it’s happening, no matter how you feel about it.”

He slid his hands in his pockets and lifted his chin. “What time is the ceremony?”

“Midnight.”

“That’s plenty of time to fly your mother in,” he replied, his answer saying so much.

“Well, I suppose that means I’ll have to fly your mother in, too,” Merrick told his daughter.

“Looks like we’re finally having a real wedding,” Saxton beamed.

“Fuck you, dude,” Stone snorted. “My wedding was real.”

It looked like we were in for a long night.
