I look up and see Geani staring at me, wondering what the hell is going on and why I’m so interested in this couple. I don’t want to give her any more ammo than what she already has with me.

I rush by Nick and his date, leaving my two refilled shot glasses on the bar for the next person to take for me. When I get to the bathrooms in the changing area, I lock myself in the stall and fight back the tears. This makeup took me too long to mess it up now.

I’m rocking back and forth when Megan comes into the bathroom.

“Trin?” she asks, staying in character since we’re at the club. “Trin. Are you okay?”

“I’ll be fine,” I say, forcing a smile. “I think I just did a few too many shots on an empty stomach and now I’m paying for it.”

She laughs. “Typical. Well, get yourself together and get out here. Your next VIP room is already waiting for you.”

I sniffle and grab a wad of toilet paper to dab at my eyes.

“I’m on my way.”

I hear the bathroom door close behind her and I get to my feet, taking a few deep breaths to calm myself down.

“You don’t live that life anymore,” I tell myself. “You chose this. You wished for a new life and this is what you got. You can’t be freaking out when you see Nick out in public. He still lives in this town, apparently. Just get through tonight and stay on your best behavior.”

I clear my throat and throw the toilet paper into the toilet. I check myself in the mirror and head for the door.

“This is your club,” I tell myself. “The most sought after,” I add, echoing Nick’s fiance. I shake my arms and legs to get myself pumped up for my next client. Looking down at my body, I am reminded of the piercings, tattoos, and rock-hard abs. This makes me smirk. “And you’re hot as fuck.”

Chapter fourteen

Get Him, Amanda!

Iwakeupfeelingnumb from the night before. I still can’t believe I saw Nick with another woman. I can’t believe I had such an amazing show. And I can’t believe how awful the inside of my mouth feels from the bad choices I made after the club closed.

I open my eyes and look toward my blackout curtains that hang over my bedroom window. I take in a deep breath when I notice the sun is up and my day off has officially begun.

How long should I lay here?

“Bitch, get up!” Amanda shouts from the other side of the door.

“Apparently not long,” I grunt as I swing my legs over the side of the bed and dip my feet into my slippers.

I pull the door open and notice that Amanda is completely dressed and standing in the hallway. Her contacts are replaced with her black cat-eye glasses, which tells me she already did some homework before she came pounding on my door.

I keep forgetting her exams are coming up. I don’t know how she manages all this. It’s not like we work a nine-to-five Monday through Friday kind of job.

“Get ready,” she says.

“Why?” I ask, still feeling the aftermath of last night’s tequila.

“We’re throwing the party,” Amanda says, looking over her shoulder toward Megan’s door.

“Aiden’s party?” I ask.

Amanda nods. Then, Leeah’s door opens and she comes sneaking out into the hall. “Are you ready?” Leeah asks, her quiet voice making it almost impossible to hear her when she whispers.

“I guess so,” I say. “I just need clothes.” I squint at the two of them and look toward Megan’s door. “Does she know we’re doing this?”

“Well, obviously,” Leeah says, chuckling. “Otherwise we wouldn’t be able to see him.”

Aiden’s dad must be a real tool if he wouldn’t allow us to have a birthday party for him. I’ll have to make a mental note to hate him more. I guess that explains the short phone calls while she’s at the club and why Aiden never comes to our house.

What an asshole.
