“He missed you.”

I jump as I turn around. Niklas watches me with a smirk on his lips. I blush as I clutch my stuffed animal.

“What are you doing here?” I ask looking at him.

“I followed you. Are you snooping?”

“This is my room; I have the right. And I’m not snooping.”

He chuckles and walks into the room, looking around. He has grown up a lot since we were teenagers, the room seems too small for him. His sudden change in mood disconcerts me.

“You left, it’s not your room anymore. Nor your things. Everything belongs to me.”

Niklas takes the stuffed animal from me and looks at it. This fox was a gift to me from him.

“Give it to me.”

“Why?” he asks. “By leaving it here, you lost the right to take it back.”

What a kid!Some things haven’t changed.

He hands me the stuffed animal. When I grab it, he grabs my wrist and pulls me against him. His unexpected gesture takes my breath away.

“What are you doing?”

While keeping silent, he puts his muscular arms around my hips. His dominant posture makes me feel very small and fragile. His icy gaze scrutinizes me carefully, he seems to imprint my image. At first, I tense up but after a moment the familiarity of him makes me relax. In turn, I observe him. The expression on his face has hardened over the years. A small white scar crosses his left cheek horizontally. It’s not from yesterday. What happened?

Niklas slips his hand into my bun and unties my hair. His gaze darkens as he buries his hands in my locks.

“Nick…”

“You abandoned me,” he hisses.

His grip tightens, which makes me wince.

“It’s not what you think. I’ll explain.”

“It’s too late for explanations.”

He forces me to step back by putting extra pressure on my hair. My body hits the wall next to the large bay window. My heart is beating fast and too hard. My cheeks turn red as his touch allows me to feel every one of his muscles, especially his crotch, glued to my thigh.

What is he looking for? I don’t dare look him in the eyes, his dark aura makes me uncomfortable. Blocked against him, it’s impossible for me to escape. This feeling of being trapped suffocates me and reminds me of many unpleasant situations I had with Rikard.

Rickard!

He must not see us. The situation could mislead him and provoking him in his drunken state is not part of my plans.

“Stop… Back off.”

Another laugh escapes his throat. A joyless, mocking laugh. I shiver and try to push him away.

“What’s the matter? Are you afraid that your little doggie will surprise us?”

Yes!

What I’ve learned from living with Niklas is that the more he’s hurt, the crueler he’ll be.

“Please.”
