“Scar.”

My brother’s voice jerks me out of my sleep, and I bump into an elbow as I sit up. Nolan leaps to his feet. Hands clasped to his bare crotch, he stares around, in bewildered face. I blink several times, turning my head quickly towards the door where a knocks sound again.

“Scar!”

My brother presses the handle and growls when he sees my door is locked. I locked it before falling asleep and I congratulate myself inside. Even so, my breathing stops, and a lump lodges in my throat because Edgar isbehind the door. I’m tangled in the sheets, my body groggy, clothes strewn on the floor, and Nolan just stands there, trying to process the situation we’re in. He didn’t leave my room this morning as agreed, we haven’t slept much, and I stifle a yawn. I press my blanket to my chest and signal to keep quiet. He raises his arms in the air, rolling his eyes, as if to tell me he’s not so stupid as to answer my brother for me. I frown and he quietly fusses over the boxers he’s hastily trying to put on. Edgar has not moved from behind the door because he knocks again.

“I’m coming!”

Nolan’s eyes pop out, and he prevents me from opening the door. I push him towards the bed, forcing him to hide underneath. With a kick, I put some clothes in front of him, trying to hide his build as much as possible. I don’t turn on the light and quickly put on a T-shirt to unlock the door. I don’t even know how long Edgar has been waiting outside. Judging by the face he has when I open the door, it must be written on my face that I’m hiding something.

He purses his lips and crosses his arms against his chest.

“What’s wrong?”

“You woke me up,” I mutter.

He laughs.

“You look like shit.”

“Fuck you, Ed. What do you want?”

“Why do you lock your door?”

He places a hand on the door frame and glances behind me.

“You were at a party. Do you think I want one of you to come in and piss me off, drunk? I anticipate your bullshit.”

He chuckles and steps back looking down the hall.

“You’re right, with Nolan you never know! Him and the rooms, it’s a big love story.”

I blush, because… his buddy is currently inmyroom. Undermybed. Almost naked.

“By the way, did you hear him come in yesterday?”

I shake my head, my throat clogged with a ball of stress. Edgar takes a few steps and as he’s about to put his hand on the handle of Nolan’s room. “Let him sleep,” I squeak. “He starts later.”

My brother sighs and runs a hand through his hair.

“Are you ready, Ed?”

Leo pops in too, winking at me as he passes by my room.

“You’re up already?”

“My brother woke me up,” I growl.

“I wanted to know if you needed me to drop you off at school,” Edgar defends himself.

“She doesn’t have class until ten today.”

I roll my eyes.

“You better read the damn schedule you forced us to hang on the fridge. You know, the one that meticulously details all of our class hours, placedright nextto your shitty rules.”

Leo bursts out laughing and slaps Edgar on the shoulder.
