"Got no problem with silly." I grind my erection into her. "Say it and I'll make your fantasy come true."

"I know you will." Boosting up onto her tiptoes, she levels our gazes. "Even though it's daytime, I want you to go into the bedroom, take your clothes off, and get into bed with the lights off. Oh, and shut the curtains too. Make it as dark as possible in there."

"You want to crawl into my bed in the dark and have your way with me."

"Because you invited me to do it." She coils locks of her hair around her fingers, toying with the strands. "And it's my bed, technically."

"Our bed. We both sleep in it."

"True. Our bed, then."

I step backward out of her arms, whip off my shirt, and toss it onto the sofa. "Be waiting for you."

Heading for the hallway, I glance back at Calli one last time until I've gone too far around the corner to see her anymore. The bedroom door makes a soft click when I shut it after me. Once I've gotten naked, I close the curtains and pull the quilt off the bed, then flip the sheet and blanket aside. The lamp is still on, but once I'm lying on the bed, I shut that off too.

And I wait.

Maybe I should've left the door open a wee bit. I jump up and ease the door open several inches, just enough that muted light from the living room leaks inside. Back on the bed, I lie down to wait again.

Someone knocks on the front door.

I can tell it's the front one and not the back door because I hear the distinctive sound of a fist rapping on wood. Glass sounds different. Then I hear a click, as if Calli has opened the door.

Though I have no intention of eavesdropping, the voices out there make their way back here. The house isn't large, so it's no surprise I can hear what they're saying, especially since they speak in raised voices.

"Calli, I've missed you," a man says. It sounds like he has an accent.

"What do you want?" she asks.

"May I come inside?"

"Tell me what you came here to say. And make it fast, I've got things to do."

She only has one thing to do—me. But the anxiety in her voice ensures I stop thinking about sex.

"As you wish," the man says, then he speaks in a softer voice so I can't hear his words.

"Us?" Calli says sharply. "Spit it out, Rade. What exactly are you suggesting?"

They both start speaking in softer voices this time, and I can't understand what they say.

Finally, Calli says in a firm, louder voice, "Might as well give me the divorce because I'll never be with you."

More hushed words. I swing my feet off the bed, experiencing a strong urge to go out there and support Calli, but I think that must be her husband. She might not want me interfering. So, I get back on the bed and pull the sheet over my lower body.

The front door shuts.

Calli shambles into the bedroom. She eases the door further open, steals inside, and shuts the door. The curtains, though thick, allow a hint of sunlight to filter into the room, so she can probably see the shape of me on the bed.

I switch on the lamp, and golden light spills over the bed. I'm lying here with one leg outstretched, the other bent so the sheet has slid off to expose my entire leg up to the hip. The sheet covers my groin and drapes over my other leg. I swear I didn't adopt this pose deliberately in hopes of arousing Calli, but despite the emotional conversation she seems to have just had with another man, she can't seem to stop herself from admiring my body. I link my hands behind my head, gazing at her with a tight expression. My casual pose is bollocks, and I'm sure she's figured that out, but I feel an odd need to pretend I don't care what she and that man said to each other.

"That was your husband," I say.

She nods. "He claims this time he'll accept the divorce papers. I've decided to believe him and let the process server try one last time."

"What makes you think your husband will keep his word?"

"He seemed sincere." She shuffles to the bed, perching on its edge, angled toward me. "Rade said he loves me and wants a chance to win my heart."
