He looked back to the plant, wondering where Diaz was and hoping Will was okay. The guy had saved their lives.

John came jogging toward him.

“How are you?” he asked, looking into the van without waiting for an answer. “How is she?”

“She’ll survive,” he said, his eyes following John’s. Anna was looking at them warily.

John sighed. “Will said it was rough, but she didn’t talk—she didn’t give you up, other than the message, which she used to your advantage.”

That didn’t surprise Jackson. “She gets full immunity. That was the deal,” Jackson said. If John went back on his deal, Jackson was going to shoot him right here and now.

John looked to him. “The deal stands. I’m already thinking of other ways she might be useful.”

That didn’t surprise Jackson. “Any sight of Dominic?” he asked.

A grin spread across John’s lips. “Yeah, the officers shot him as he exited. He ran straight into our hands, like the coward he was.”

Jackson exhaled. “They were using this place to manufacture fentanyl,” he said, pulling the strip of pills from his pocket.

John nodded. “Max called just after you arrived here. He got a hit on the numbers Anna provided. They matched the bank account number of an offshore account for Craven Enterprises. There are two beneficiaries on the account: Dominic and Diaz, and it appears this is the account they’ve been sending all their money to.”

Jackson nodded, his breathing finally returning to normal.

“I’ll authorize the release of Olivia to Anna as soon as I can. Well done, Jackson.” John extended his hand.

Jackson shook it, grinning. “Thank you, sir.”

“Go with her and make sure she’s safe. I’ll clean up here.”

John walked away as a medic tapped his shoulder. “We’re going to take her to the hospital. Are you climbing in?”

Jackson nodded, stepping into the back of the van. He took Anna’s hand and her eyes opened.

“Everything okay?” she asked with a rough voice.

He brought her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles. He looked to her, smiling.

“I told you our story didn’t end like that.”

EPILOGUE

Anna stood at the foot of the grave.

Olivia King

Beloved daughter of Judith and Joshua King.

Sister of Anna King.

Our lives were better because of you

Anna had dreamed of this moment, and now that it was finally here, it was better than she’d imagined, because she didn’t have to do it alone.

She squeezed her eyes shut as she inhaled a shaky breath. Jackson’s fingers slipped between hers, giving her a reassuring squeeze.

Anna exhaled a long breath, tipping her face up to the sunlight. She opened her eyes, looking at the man beside her. Jackson gave her a beautiful smile and her heart swelled. In the few weeks since that fateful night at QARI, he’d proven to be everything he’d promised he was. Jackson was good, a man of his word, and she was falling for him more every day.
