“I wanted to help you feel ready to give a speech in the ceremony. But you didn’t need me. You got there on your own.”

Anna has pulled Mike’s face down to hers, and his arms are tight around her. A few whistles rise from the gathered crowd. Zoey takes my hand.

“I might not have needed you,” she says. “But I’ll always want you by my side.”

“Is that how you truly feel?” She nods, and my heart thuds. “Even after everything?”

“Didn’t you hear what I just said to Anna and Mike?”

“The part about how much you like cruises?” I pull her closer.

“That might be an overstatement,” she says, running her hands up my arms so we’re chest to chest.

“So you mean about rebuilding, even after the trust is broken?” I let my hands slide up her neck and into her hair.

“It might be worth it,” she whispers, rising onto tiptoe. “What do you think?”

She doesn’t let me answer.

CHAPTERTWENTY-TWO

ZOEY

Sebastian’s lips are soft, though his stubble burns my chin.

“God, you’re sexy,” he says, coming up for air. One of my cousins whistles as they pass us, heading back up the steps towards the restaurant. I flip them off with a grin. Sebastian covers my hand with his, drawing it back to his chest.

“You know, you’re different than I thought,” I say.

“How so?”

“Well, you’re super generous. And you seem to make the people around you laugh a lot. And maybe you take relationships more seriously than I expected.”

“I believe a very smart man said that about you.” He squeezes me tighter.

“It’s true for you too. Plus, you’re a lot sweeter and more romantic than you let on.”

“I’m not romantic,” Sebastian says. “I’m practical.”

“And you’re still every bit as argumentative as I first thought.” I laugh.

“How about you, who never dates? Will that change?”

For a second, my shoulders tense, but Sebastian’s little smile, the one he seems to reserve just for me, sends warmth coursing from my head to my toes. I relax into him.

“For you, it might change.” I grin.

“Thank god.” Sebastian lifts me like he’s about to carry me up the steps behind the rest of the guests. I shriek, squirming out of his grasp.

“Let’s not break any bones tonight. My ankle has healed!”

He laughs and I take his hand, running up the steps to catch up to everyone. At the top, he’s out of breath and we stop.

“Do you, perhaps, want to see my RV?”

“You have an RV?” His eyebrows raise.

“A rental. But it’s mine for the next three weeks.” It’s parked along the leafy road near Geoffrey’s, since the valet wouldn’t take it. I tug him along in a rush. Once inside, Sebastian’s hands grip tight around my waist and he pushes me backwards until the cabinets are hard behind me, the wood cool against my back. His low-slung hips pin me against the wall, his legs straddling mine.
