“All right.” Riyah’s voice shakes. “But the socks stay on.”

Chapter4

RIYAH

There’s nothing worse than a vampire worrying about dying. To humans, I’m already dead. They’ll look the other way in light of my superior speed, stamina, and knowledge as a physician, not to mention my healing blood if they need medical assistance. But no one is going to shed a tear for one less vampire.

Sometimes paranormals are judgmental; some are worse than humans. At least the paranormals understand that much of our world is unexplainable. It’s enough effort to live the life we have without bending ourselves out of shape about how to classify it.

Lying in Jax’s arms, my fear morphs into pain. I am dying again. Only this time it’s from the agony of pent-up need mixed with the piercing stabs of the cold leaving my body.

Jax works on riding me of my clothes. A snowsuit is a pain to get on, but trying to get a wet one off when I can’t move my limbs is a bitch. He curses as he rips my final layers of T-shirt and pants. When I’m naked on a pile of blankets by the fire—minus even the socks—his massive, warm body covers me and a thought enters my head. I don’t mind dying if I get to go out with a bang.

I giggle.

“What’s funny?”

I draw him near and whisper my revelation in his ear but instead of laughing his expression bounces between heated and pissed off. But I think the lust is winning out over any anger he might be feeling on my behalf.

This close I can feel his breath brush against my face and neck when he turns toward me. Our eyes connect and gone are the crackling fire, the cold, and tonight’s freezing events. It’s only me, him, and the feel of his impressive cock pressing into my thigh.

His lips skim over my forehead, my temple, before moving to my cheek. Warmth spreads through every space he touches. I hadn’t realized how much I miss sunlight on my skin. Seeing as how sunlight would incinerate me, I’ve never dwelt on that loss before.

Now his kisses bring me back to life the way the sun fuels other cold-blooded creatures.

“Beautiful,” Jax murmurs. His fingertips move down to stroke my lip. That feels good, but I want more.

Struggling against my own frozen body, I kiss his fingertips and nip them lightly.

He bends his head, his lips brushing mine lightly. Too lightly.

I want to feel more of Jax. All of him. I want his weight against me, his large form spreading my thighs and then I want the bliss that follows.

In the firelight, his light eyes darken as they take me in. “We can’t, Riyah. They could kill you if I do what my wolf wants.”

There’s something deeper he’s not sharing, but I don’t press. Instead, I lay my palm against his chest, feeling his heart thundering beneath my palm.

“Please,” I whisper. “I’m cold.”

Jax raises an eyebrow. One hand lightly strokes the contours of my left breast before resting lightly on that hip. A shadow passes through his light eyes as though he’s made his mind up.

“Only if I can be extremely thorough.” He looks down into my face. All the heat from his eyes warms me to my core.

Gods, the thought of having him inside me, stroking me hard—I’ve never wanted anything more in my life. Or death.

“I’d be disappointed with anything less.” My hand slides down his chiseled abs. He shifts over me, his weight pressing me into our makeshift bed. His hard cock drags over my thigh, leaving a path of hot pre-cum.

“I love how soft you are.” Warm, hungry lip brush over my neck before moving over my collarbone.

“I am not your typical vampire,” I gasp as his teeth lightly graze one nipple before he wraps those warm, wet lips around my other.

Now that I can move, I reach for him and bury my finger in his hair, reveling in the thickness.

“I’ve been dying to worship these beauties.” He nuzzles me. “Among other things.” His tongue continues the flicking until I pull at his head.

“Please,” I beg.

I feel his smile against my breast as he puts his tongue to work in earnest.
