“Insurance is giving me shit because we don’t know who set the place on fire. The police report said that they suspect fraud.”

“What a nightmare,” I said, covering my eyes.

“You’re telling me. At least Pagan will make a full recovery.”

“No, I’m not talking about the fire.”

Sky joined us at the bar, looking freshly fucked and confused. Even with her black hair, the girl doesn’t look a thing like me. I felt hopeful. Surely, it’s a mistake.

She crossed her arms. Angry, the girl looked so familiar. I was instantly drawn to her. Saying I dreamed her up wasn’t a lie. She was damn near perfect. There’d been some instant attraction that I hadn’t felt in forever. While we fucked, I’d actually felt something other than myself cummin. Fuck me. I always was a narcissist asshole. Of course, I’d be in love with someone so like me. Belching, I threw up in my mouth a little. I looked to Opry. He’d said to go for the younger girls. This was one of the many reasons why I steered clear.

Sky whined, “You said you’d help me find my dad.”

I scrubbed my forehead. “Sweetheart. You don’t want to find him. He’s a dirty old man. A scoundrel. Sicko, really.”

“Just tell me who’s Beau Strick.”

Opry answered her, “He just walked in.” Opry points across the room.

I followed his finger. Am I fucking dreaming? There was an angel on his arm. I’d know her anywhere. My heart stopped. Maddie Mae. The only woman I’d ever loved was here in the flesh. However, she was all dolled up, in a literal gown, with my brother in his tux.

Sky put up her hand. “Not Bubba. I know all about him.”

“Then you must be looking for…” Opry about gave me away.

“Opry,” I warned, running my finger across my neck, threatening to kill him if he spoke.

“Ugh. What’s my mom doing here?” Sky remarked, her face crumpling up. Her fingers to her forehead, she tried to hide her face.

“That’s your mom?”

“Yes.”

“Maddie Mae Wynburn?”

“Yes. I’m Sky Wynburn.”

I exhaled like a birthday cake sat in front of me. “Thank fuck.”

“What’s going on?” Sky demanded.

I took her shoulders. “I’m Beau Strick.”

Her eyes reflected the dread I’d felt moments earlier. Her hand went to her mouth.

I couldn’t speak quick enough. “But I’m not your dad, love. I never had sex with Maddie Mae. Not even once. Thank fuck!”

Her words came slow. “You’re Beau Strick? Holy shit. We just...”

Opry’s eyes grew large before he belted out laughing at my imagined dilemma.

I gave him a dirty look. I’d give him what for when I got the chance.

“But mom does nothing but talk about you. I could’ve sworn she said she had sex with Beau. Oh, she must’ve been talking about Bubba.”

“Bubba. Maddie Mae gave it up to my brother?”

“Oh, yeah. But she thought he was you.”
