I wasn’t a monster.

Sky waited uncovered in my bed as she often did, naked and waiting.

I kept far away from her so I wouldn’t do something I would regret.

“Is it true? You told Ralph you’d spy on me?”

Her smile faded. “No,” she lied.

“I’ve seen the video. So, I’ll ask again.”

“Maybe. But it’s not like that. I didn’t really know you then. Plus, I wanted away from Ralph. I would have agreed to anything. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do, but I fell in love with you.”

“You’ve kept it from me all this time?” My hands tightened into fists. I pushed them into my pockets.

Sky covered herself up. “You were playing me, too. You wanted to make my mom jealous.”

“At first. But I wanted you from the start.”

I’d longed for her since the first night we met. I’d fought it, but it was there.

“Well, same here. I thought about getting info for Ralph, but I didn’t. I needed the money. In the end, I chose you.”

That was not what it sounded like. She called me a sicko. She laughed about me wanting her. Her words from the tape replayed in my mind.

“You’ve got a much better payday now, marrying me,” I accused her of the least of my worries.

“That’s not why. I wanted to marry you. I fell in love with you,” she said, her voice pleading.

“You got knocked up. And your baby might not be mine.”

“You said that didn’t matter.”

“That’s before I saw you with Ralph. He has everything on tape, Sky. Everything.”

She closed her eyes. Bitch had been caught. She knew it.

“You’ve been nothing but a lie,” I realized out loud, taking my hands from my pockets.

“No, Kingpin.”

“I should’ve known this was too good to be true.”

She rolled her eyes. “You don’t love me. I’m pregnant with your child and all you can think about is Eve.”

“That’s a load of Bull. And who knows who’s baby you’re carrying. But don’t worry. I won’t let the mob have you until we know for certain.”

“What does that mean?”

I took off my wedding ring and dropped it on the floor.

“You can stay here at the Big House tonight since you’re having someone’s baby. I’ll crash over at the clubhouse.”

“You’re leaving?” Bitch sounded surprised.

Hilarious.

Hell yeah, I was leaving. I couldn’t get out of there quick enough.
