“Where are you going?”

“Club business.”

“You’re leaving again? Is this about Eve?”

“I can’t say.”

“Hallow went to look for her. You know, Paisley says she probably staged it. The kidnapping.”

If only.

I kissed Sky’s forehead. My bride was upset, but she knew being my Ol’ Lady wouldn’t be a walk in the park. I’d make it up to her later.

On my way out, I met with my other Enforcer, Goliath and my suspended VP, Pagan.

“There’s trouble, so I’m goin’ out. Alone.” I didn’t want anyone to follow me like they normally would. I said as much. “That’s an order.”

Goliath shook his head, but he wouldn’t argue. Unlike Leviathan who’d been playing Nomad, he was my menacing shadow. As big as his name suggested, I’d always joked he was covered in ancient Chinese tattoos. Only to get under his skin. He thought we Tennessee boys were backwards. And we were. Fact was he was part Chinese with a Japanese style bodysuit of tats to look like he was in a gang. We’d become inseparable in prison. I’d scratch his back and he'd scratch mine sort of thing.

Since he became a free man, he was always with me. That was if Memphis and Junebug weren’t around. Those two hadn’t been seen since they learned Sky and I would tie the knot. They stormed out of here quick as lightning.

“Fuck, no. You ain’t going alone,” Pagan belted out.

“You’re in no shape to stop me.”

Pagan still recovered from the third degree burns he suffered in the fire his side chic set. Because of his bad attitude, I’d made Riff my acting VP. Pagan was supposed to be using the time to make up with his baby mama. Spend time with his daughter. Or something. But here he sat at the bar at Royal Road, drowning in whiskey.

The biker looked wilder than usual, his beard and hair unkept. He’d gotten his road name not just for his ungodly ways, he truly worshipped nature or some shit. Well, he had. His girl, Kara was an evil soul sucking bitch. I didn’t think the man believed in anything anymore.

“Why are you telling us if you ain’t going to listen to reason?” Frustrated, he waved his hands. Pagan’s job had been to keep me in check.

“I need in the safe.”

Pagan had sole access to it. When I suspended him from VP, I didn’t take that responsibility from him. I didn’t trust Riff with too much power. Despite the cheating on his woman, Pagan had been the most loyal of this bunch.

Leaving Goliath at the bar, Pagan followed me to my office. Behind a false wall, we had a closet-sized vault.

“Taking a bag and going off alone. It doesn’t look good, Prez.”

“I’m not sure money will be enough.”

Pagan got in my way as I turned to leave.

“Ya ain’t gonna to tell me where ya goin’?”

Hardass was as drunk as I’d ever seen him. Jassica sure did a number on him.

“No. I can’t. It’s life or death,” I answered, knowing he’d put two and two together if I disappeared.

I rode alone to the address a while off the highway. An abandoned factory awaited me. I knew the place used to make paper products before it shut its doors forever ago. I’d looked at the property with Pharoah when we were in the market for an off the beaten path location to build Royal Road.

A black heap against the dark night, the building hadn’t aged well since. A couple streetlights were on illuminating the adjacent parking lot. There were no vehicles, no motorcycles, nothing to suggest anyone was inside.

A bag under my arm, I felt for the gun inside my cut and left my Harley. Like a cat burglar, I surrounded the building before entering through a side entrance. The rusty door creaked.

Of fucking course.

“Hello,” a voice called out.
