She leaned up on her elbow, “Time for me to go, my watch dogs are here.”

I laughed, “Your watch dogs, huh?”

She kissed my nose, “Yes.”

“How did they find you? Are you wearing a tracking device?”

She shook her head, “No, my sister can feel me.”

“Are they going to be upset that you left?”

She threw back the sheet that was covering us and sat up, “Oh, a couple are upset, but I can deal with them.”

“How many are here?”

She stood and cocked her head, “Three in the hallway, three more on the street.”

“How do you know that?”

She shrugged, “Because I can feel them.”

“Huh,” I grunted. “Just like that, you can feel them?”

“Yes, it’s like they all have individual signatures, and when they are around, I feel them.”

“Can you only feel the people who work for you?”

She shook her head as she slipped her feet back into her heels, “No, I can feel them all, which also means that right now, they can feel me too.”

“That’s dangerous for you, isn’t it?”

“Yes, it’s why Joshua is always with me. He has the ability to hide my presence.”

“Well, then you better get back to him.” I told her as I got out of the bed and pulled on my track pants again. “I don’t want you to get hurt because of me.”

Her smile was lopsided, “I can take care of myself, Hugh.”

“I have no doubt that you can,” I put my hands on her hips, “But I’d rather you not have to defend yourself because you came to me. Next time you need me, you call, and I’ll come to you where you are safe.”

She touched the side of my face looking contemplative, “I like you, Hugh. It’s been a long time since I found myself liking someone for who they are, not what they are.”

I laughed, “We really don’t know each other that well. You realize that, right? I know we always say we are going to talk, but we usually end up in bed almost immediately.”

“Yes, true.” She leaned forward and kissed me, “I know you better than you think, though.” Her gaze drifted to my neck, “And thank you for the offer. I will take you up on it sometime, but not right now.”

“Whenever you want, whatever you need, Kris.” She winked and then was gone. The sound of the door clicking softly in the other room was the only thing that told me that I hadn’t imagined her being here in the first place. I glanced back at the rumpled sheets on the bed, frowning.
