“How did we not know he was a reborn?” I hadn’t meant to speak the words aloud, but I was too shocked to do otherwise.

“It wasn’t my imagination?”She asked me privately.

I shook my head as I turned to her,“No, it is not your imagination. Holy Shit, Kristin!”

“Can one of you please tell me what the hell is going on?” Hugh sat up, his formidable erection deflating slightly as he realized that his good time had effectively been cut short.

“I think you need to get dressed and come out to the other room so we can have a discussion.” I told him as I grabbed his pants off the floor and tossed them to him. I turned to my sister who was still staring wide-eyed at Hugh, the color now shifting back to her natural blue. “You too, get dressed. I’m going to get Cam.”

“No!” My sister finally snapped out of her daze.

“Yes, someone else needs to help us decide what to do here.” I told her and her shoulders dropped slightly.

“I’m serious, ladies, what the hell is going on?” Hugh asked as he shifted to the side of the bed. “Is there something wrong with my blood?”

I laughed as I left the room, calling over my shoulder, “Or something so totally right.”

When I came back a few minutes later, Kristin was staring out the window into the night in her living room, and Hugh was pacing nervously near the bar.

“What’s so important?” Cameron asked as the door closed behind him.

“We need you to taste his blood.” I replied and Hugh’s shoulder rose as his back straightened in alarm.

“Oh, no! No one else is taking a drink from this draft until you all tell me what the hell is going on.”

“You do realize that he could take it before you could even inhale your next breath, right?” I asked as I cocked my head and grinned.

Hugh frowned at me, but it was Cameron that replied. “Don’t worry. I’m not going to take your blood without your permission.” He turned to me, “Explain, Lena.”

Kristin turned from the window and approached Hugh, “Hugh, I need you to trust me for a moment, and let Cameron taste your blood. Just from your wrist, and only a little bit. I promise once he does, I’ll explain everything. I just need to make sure before I try to make sense of this.”

“Fine, becauseyouare asking nicely, but you promise that you’re going to tell me what the hell is going on?”

“Yes, I will tell you everything.” She squeezed his arm.

Cameron gave me another hard glance but went to Hugh’s side. “May I have your wrist?”

“Jesus, Cam, stop being a douchebag gentleman and just bite him for Christ sake.” I growled at him.

“Lena, cut it out.” My sister snapped.

“Yeah, go ahead.” Hugh held his hand out toward Cameron and Cam shared a glance with Kristin before he shifted and latched onto the Hugh’s wrist. Hugh’s body went stiff for a moment, and then relaxed as Cameron withdrew and then licked his wrist.

In his eyes was wonderment, “Well?” I asked him.

“His blood is almost identical to yours.” He responded as he let his gaze drift over Hugh. “Not as strong, and definitely not toxic like yours is now, but similar.”

“Ours wasn’t toxic when we were younger. It’s only been the last twenty years or so.” Kristin responded.

Hugh put his hand up, his gaze staring at his wrist briefly where the puncture holes had already closed. “Alright enough of this, please tell me what the fuck is going on. Why do you think my blood is like yours? How can that possibly be?”

“You might want to have a seat, and a drink.” Cameron said to him with a smile and then he grew thoughtful. “Hugh, I’m Cameron, by the way, and old friend of the family.” He turned back to him and took a seat still looking thoughtful, and Kristin went to the bar and poured us all drinks before handing them out.

“What was your last name again?” Cam asked Hugh.

“McMurphy.” Hugh said as he accepted the drink from Kristin.

“How old are you?”
