“Don’t even think about.” She said over her shoulder before she went into the bathroom.

“Think about what?” I asked her as I followed behind her.

“What you were just thinking about. I will not bond with you anymore than we already are.”

“But you’ll bond to him?”

She raised a brow at me after she called out for the water to be turned on to the correct temperature. “I assume you mean Hugh?”

“Yes. Why didn’t you tell me he was a reborn?”

“Because we just learned about it earlier tonight. I hadn’t had much of a chance to think about it myself and I wasn’t sure what to do about it.”

“Now what are you going to do?” I leaned back against the vanity, crossing my arms over my chest.

“Make sure he transitions.”

“Are you going to force him to?”

She shrugged, “If I have to, maybe.”

“Are you going to mate with him?” She looked at me as she stepped out from under the water.

“I don’t know, Josh, I might. I’d like to think that he might be up for that. There is a connection between us, and being that he is a reborn, and you saw his strength tonight, I think it might be good.”

I pursed my lips.

“You don’t agree?”

“I agree that he might help your power, but there is something about him that I don’t like, or trust.”

“You don’t even know him, Joshua, and you have been barking about him since the moment he arrived.”

“Don’t you think it’s strange that he showed up now? That he came to us asking about our powers now right when things were changing?”

“No.”

“How can you not? The man works for the government, a government that wants to control us. Portage is knocking on our door trying to take your power, and here comes this guy that no one knew about. He shows up, you two hit the sack and then look at that, he’s a reborn, and you’re looking at mating with him.”

“You say that like he has this devious plan. He’s a reborn, Josh, and his blood goes back years. It was his great-grandfather that died a vampire and was reborn into his grandfather, his father and then him. None of the other men even know what they were. We are lucky to have found him.”

“Are we?”

She finished rinsing her hair and I waited patiently as she turned off the water and wrapped a towel around her hair and her body.

“Yes, we are. I think Hugh coming to us now is a good thing. Perfect timing.”

“So you’d really mate with him?”

“Not that it is any of your business, but maybe. We have to wait and see what he decides. He might want to transition, but maybe he wouldn’t want to mate with me.”

I laughed, “Yeah, I don’t see that happening.”

“Why not? Because you secretly wish that you could? Because several of the other men here wish that they could?”

“Maybe.”

“Sorry to disappoint you all, but it’s going to be either Hugh, or an elder. You are too important to me. Besides the fact that our blood is too different, I need you to be focused on my safety as the Mistress, not as the mate.”
