“You ready?” Ryker asked.
“I guess.” I told him.
Over the last week, I had come to know Ryker and Conner pretty well, and I liked them both. Ryker a bit more than Conner who tended to be quiet, but they both enjoyed watching sports, so we had that in common.
Conner and Ryker collected the other few bags that I had, and I took one last look around my place. Goodbye to the old life, and hello to the new one. I was tense on the way back to the hotel, and Jett met us in the parking garage, taking my bag from me.
“You know I can carry that.” I said.
He grinned over his shoulder, “Well, Mr. Master-to-be, it would be honor to do it for you.”
I laughed, “Yeah, I don’t know about that title.”
“Get used to it.” Ryker joked.
“Does this mean that I will be a master after I mate with Kristin?”
“I guess.” Ryker said with a shrug. “She became the Mistress when she mated with Alexander. I guess it will be the same when you do it”
I nodded and felt butterflies’ flit around my gut. We rode the elevator up to the top floor, and Jett turned to me, “You’ll get an access card tomorrow, and we’ll put your DNA into the system after it changes. Then you will have access to just about anywhere in the building.”
“Sounds good.” I told him.
The elevator door opened, and they stepped out. My feet felt stuck to the floor and Ryker glanced back, “What? You getting cold feet now?”
I laughed slightly and forced my feet forward. “Maybe just a little bit. Does it hurt?”
“What, to transition?” Ryker asked back.
“Yeah.”
He shook his head, “Nah, there is nothing to it.” Jett and Conner chuckled which told me that Ryker had just lied his ass off to me.
“I will kick your ass later if you just lied to me.”
“We’ll see if you can do that.” He grinned back at me as he held the door to Kristin’s apartment open.
Inside, the room was full, and many of the people didn’t look to happy. Well, damn. Was this the welcoming committee or an execution?
Kristin came to my side, a gentle smile on her face as she spoke, “Hello.”
“Hey.” This was the first that I had seen of her since last week. While we had talked over the phone several times, we had not seen one another.
“We decided to have Clayton start your transition.” She said as a man stepped forward and held out his hand.
“Welcome to the family. I’m Clayton Larkin one of the elders on the board.”
I shook his hand, “Nice to meet you.”
Kristin looked slightly nervous as she glanced around then back to me, “Are you ready to get started?”
“I guess. Is everyone going to watch?”
Kristin laughed, “No, they were all just leaving, well most of them. Ryker and Conner will remain along with Clayton.”
“Will you be here?”
She shook her head, “No, this part you do on your own. I’ll see you later after you rest.”
