“No hospital. I’m sure one of my stitches pulled. I’ll be fine. Let’s just go back to the house. I’m sure it will stop bleeding soon.”

“I’m so sorry,” Charlotte said as she opened my door and helped me in. “If we hadn’t been so excited and laughing so hard, we would have seen that guy.”

“It’s not your fault,” I told her. “I’m okay, really.”

Riley chuckled from the back seat.

“What are you laughing at?” Charlotte asked.

“I just sent a text to a friend of mine who is a cop. I told him what happened and sent the plate number and the guy's photo. He’s going to go talk to the guy.”

“You did not!” I twisted in my seat, wincing. “Please tell me you did not just do that.”

“I did.” She held her phone out to me. “I’m not going to let that slimeball get away with it. He should have been paying more attention. It wasn’t like we were being quiet and sneaking up on him. We were cackling like mother hens after their chicks.”

Charlotte snorted with laughter, but then sobered. “That is true. We were not quiet.”

“He’s just going to go over and get his information and let him know that we reported him.”

“Well, I guess that is a good idea,” I finally replied.

Riley reached around the seat and squeezed my arm. “We got your back, girlfriend.”

“Yeah, we got your back, girlfriend.” Charlotte nodded abruptly.

I swear it wasn’t what they said that had my eyes tearing up, it really wasn’t.

Charlotte dug around in her car for some napkins and told me to press them on my leg. That made it hurt worse, but I knew she was right. I must have torn more than one stitch.

Our party was quieter on the way back to the house, and ten minutes later, we pulled down the driveway. Wes was at the fence with the horses when Charlotte slammed the car into park and jumped out.

“Wes! Roxy is hurt!” An alarmed look passed over his face quickly, and then he and his father were rushing toward the car.

“What happened?” he asked.

“I’m okay,” I said as I slipped out of the car carefully. “I think I tore a stitch or something.”

“She got hit by a truck,” Riley added, and his eyes widened.

Before I knew what was happening, Wes had whipped me into his arms and was carrying me toward the house.

“This is not necessary. I can walk.”

“With the amount of blood that you have on your pants, I think you did more than tear a stitch, Roxy.”

“Well, crap,” I muttered.

Tyler had run into the house and announced that I got hit by a car, and then we were stepping into the kitchen, only Wes didn’t slow down. The panicked expression on Lee’s face could have been comical if it weren’t for the circumstances, and he rushed behind us up the stairs.

He was all wide-eyed and unsure of himself as he stood there, staring at the blood on my pants. It wasn’t until I was climbing off the bed that he seemed to snap out of it.

“What are you doing?”

“Relax, Lee. I’m okay, but I have to stand up to take my pants off, or do you want to cut these off me too?”

He glanced at his brother. “Well, to be honest, I don’t particularly care for my brother to watch you undress.”

“He’s a doctor. It’s not like he hasn’t seen a leg before.”
