“Everything turns out the way it is supposed to,” she replied, and then she winked and walked away, leaving me staring after her.

A moment later, there was a tap on my shoulder, and I spun to see Riley and Hunt. Both hugged me, and Hunt kissed my cheek.

“You look beautiful,” Hunt said to me and then grinned. “And if things don’t work out with Henley, you let me know.”

I stared at them, my mouth hanging open. Did they not know? Both of them excused themselves quickly and went to speak with other people.

I turned in a circle, lost in thought as the music started to play. Why hadn’t Lee told them? Did he think we were going to get back together? He was crazy to think that.

I broke out of my spiraling thoughts and went back to welcoming guests and overseeing things. An hour into the party, I glanced around the room and froze.

On the other side near the entrance stood Lee, but not just Lee. Beside him were Roman and Susan, and they were all staring straight at me.

Chapter Thirty

Henley

My world spun out of control the moment I saw the pictures that Roxy had sent to me. That son of a bitch! He really meant what he said about destroying the relationship between us, and if he were here right now, I’d have kicked his ass.

I tried to call her but found that the call would not go through. “She blocked me?” I stared at my phone and then tried sending her a message, but it bounced back.

“Who blocked you?” Brett asked.

“Roxanne, she blocked my number.”

“Oh, boy. What did you do?”

“I didn’t do a damn thing! Her fucking brother has been trying to sabotage our relationship, and I think he just got his way.”

“What are you talking about?”

I brought up the picture of Susan and I standing up while she was leaning against me for balance. “Someone sent pictures of Susan and me to her, and now she thinks I’m cheating on her.” I flashed the picture to him as we stopped at a stop sign.

“You weren’t flirting with her; you were holding her up.”

“Yes,Iknow that, youknow that, and I have no doubt that Roman knows it too, but he cropped the damn photo to take out the medical stuff and made it look like we were having some romantic moment. That fucker!” I yelled as I fisted my hands. “He better hope like hell that I don’t see him today, or you’re going to be taking his ass to the hospital, while his buddies take me to jail.”

“Naw, they would be carting us both off to jail,” he replied and then grew quiet. “I’m sorry, Lee. I know you really liked her. What are you going to do?”

“I don’t know. I have to think for a little while, but if Roman, or she, think that I’m going to give up that easily, they are both dead wrong.”

Later that afternoon, I called my parents, wondering what they knew or what Roxanne might have said, but they didn’t seem to know anything about it. In fact, my mom said that Roxy was so excited to be in her new place that she had left the night before. I sighed, and that seemed to trigger the mom response.

“Henley, is something wrong? Why do you not know that Roxanne left already?”

“We had a little complication.”

“What kind of a complication?”

I sighed again. “Look, Mom, I love you, and you have no idea how much I appreciate all that you have done for Roxy, but I need to take care of this myself. I’ll figure out how to fix this.”

“You better, Henley. She is a wonderful woman, and I know she loves you very much.”

“And I love her, too. Don’t worry, I’m going to do everything I can to fix this, but it might take a little while.” After that, I told her that I had officially accepted the position and that I was moving home.

“What if things don’t work out with Roxanne? Are you going to move again?”

“No, Mom, this time I want to stay. I miss being close to you guys and everyone else. If things don’t work, and I swear, I’m going to do everything that I can to fix them, then I’m still going to be living in Millerstown from now on.”
