“I did, and you are right. We were at two different levels in high school, but that was high school. None of that means anything now.”

“You’re right. It doesn’t, so why are we even talking about it?”

“Okay. Let’s not talk about it anymore. Let’s just enjoy our vacation.”

“Great. You go hang with your friends, and I’ll go do my thing.”

He shook his head. “No.”

“No? Why not?”

“Because seeing you again reminded me that Ididlike you, and I want to get to know you again, Rainey. I want to know the woman that you have become.”

“Zack.” I sighed. “There is no reason for us to do that.”

“Do we have to have a reason to be friends? No. I want us to be friends. I’m not asking for more. Just hang out with me and have fun.”

Was it possible to do that? I had a feeling that if I hung with him, I’d find that I still had a crush on him. Would that be bad? What if I let my hair down a little and let myself enjoy my vacation? What if I let myself be who I always wanted to be, and I flirted with Zack? Would having sex on vacation be such a bad thing? I didn’t think so.

“Besides, you would be helping me out.”

I eyed him sideways. “How would hanging out be helping you?”

“You’d be saving my liver from all the drinking my buddies plan to do. Plus, I’m not interested in running around chasing women. I came on vacation to relax.”

He seemed to genuinely mean that. “Fine, I’ll hang out with you a little bit.”

“Great! What are you planning on doing tomorrow?”

“Sitting by the back pool and relaxing in the sun.”

“What time are you going up there?”

I chuckled. “I have no idea. After I wake up and eat breakfast, I guess.”

“Well, what if I met you up there at around ten-thirty.”

“You want to lie in the sun with me?”

He shrugged. “I told myself I was going to take it easy and relax this vacation. Lying in the sun and watching the water sounds right up my alley. You got a problem with that?”

I shook my head. “Not at all.” I couldn’t help it, but I yawned. “I’m sorry, but it’s been a very long day, and I’m exhausted. I’m going to head back to my room.”

“I’ll walk you.”

“You don’t have to, Zack.”

“I want to, Rainey.”

We cut through one of the main floors, and the lounge had a singer who was changing the song as we passed by. Zack captured my hand and pulled me toward the dance floor.

“What are you doing?”

“Dancing one dance with you before you head off to bed.”

“You don’t have to do that, Zack.”

He pulled me as he turned on the floor and brought my body to his. His hand curled around mine, and his other slipped onto the small of my back. “I want to, Rainey.”
