“Sadly, he’s not doing so well.”
“Is he actively passing?”
She seemed surprised that I knew the terminology. “Yes, he is.”
“Would you mind letting Zack know that Rainey is here? Just let him know that I’m here and I’d like to see him for a moment. I won’t keep him. I promise.”
“Sure, I’ll let him know.”
I turned from the doorway and stepped off the step as she closed the door. Chances were that Zack would send back a message and tell me thanks for stopping by, but what did I have to lose?
A few moments later, the door whipped open and Zack stepped out. His clothes were wrinkled, and his hair looked like he’d been running his hand through it for two days, but damn, did he look good to me.
“Rainey! What are you doing here?”
I approached him slowly, taking his face in my hands. “I heard that you might have use for a little rainbow in your life.”
Zack immediately began to crumble, and I pulled him into my arms.
