“I’m sorry, who are you looking for?”
“I’m here to pick up my girlfriend, Ember Greene. Is she still here?”
The guy looked me up and down. “You’re her boyfriend? How come she hasn’t mentioned you before?”
I shrugged. “It’s kind of a new thing.”
“Alright, I’ll go get her.” The guy walked through a door in the back while shaking his head, and a moment later, Ember came out moving faster than she had last night.
I was pleasantly surprised to see her wearing dress slacks and a nice blouse. At least I wouldn’t embarrass her by being overdressed.
“Your girlfriend?” She gave me a cheeky look. “You had poor Adam all tongue-twisted.”
“Why is that?”
“Because he knows I swore never to get involved with one person.”
“Well, sweetheart, times are changing. You ready to go?”
“Times are changing for four weeks, honey bear,” she laughed. “Where are we going?”
“You’ll see, come on.” I threw my arm over her shoulders and led her out of the store as a dumbstruck Adam watched on.
