“I hope he didn’t say I was an ogre to work with.”

Brad laughed heartily. “Um, no. Just the opposite. He said he wished all clients were as nice as you were.”

“Aw, that was sweet of him.”

It took a couple of minutes to get everything turned off because I tugged Brad around the house to show him every little thing that I had done since the last time he was here.

Finally, we were leaving to head to his house. This time I drove myself because I had soccer games to go to early in the morning.

When we arrived, we entered together, and I had barely made it over the threshold before the door closed loudly and his arms banded around me. His mouth crashed into mine, and I went with it, hopping into his arms and locking my legs around his waist as he shifted to put my back against the door that he’d just closed.

His kiss was hungry as if he had been starving for it, and it made my heart race as he held the sides of my face and deepened it even more. I was drunk on his kiss when he finally pulled back. My head bounced off the door behind me, and he chuckled softly.

“It’s a good thing you and the door are holding me up because I’m not sure my legs would work right now.”

“I’ve been dying to kiss you like that since I walked in your house tonight.”

“Well…” I leaned forward and brushed my lips over his as I stroked his bearded cheek. “I’ve been dying for a kiss like that all week.”

“I’m glad to hear that. You think your legs would hold you up now?”

“Yeah, probably.”

“Would you like a glass of wine?”

“You read my mind.”

“White or red?”

I shrugged. “Whatever you prefer.”

“Whatever I prefer? Don’t you prefer one to the other?”

“Not really.” I gave him a cheesy smile. “I just love wine.”

I followed him into the kitchen. “I had to go out and buy two soccer balls this week.”

“You did?”

“Yeah, Tonya was complaining about not being able to practice, and Tyler said he might try out for the soccer team in middle school.”

“You didn’t tell him that anyone who wants to play can, did you?”

He shook his head. “No, he’ll figure that out when he gets there.”

“I’m glad Tonya enjoys it. I’ll have to show her a few more things to help build her skills. Before you know it, she’ll be right up there with the rest of the girls.”

“Does it bother you or your kids that you coach soccer, and they can’t play?”

I shook my head. “No, not really. Lauren was disappointed that she couldn’t play, but she doesn’t love it as much as I do. I asked her if she wanted me to stop, but she told me to keep doing what I love.”

“Those are strong words from a young lady.”

I pursed my lips as a sadness fell over me. “She grew up a whole lot when she was diagnosed. It was a scary situation for all of us, and with all the testing she went through and all the appointments she has had to attend, she’s been a trooper.”

“I’m not sure I could have been as strong as you have been if that had been one of my kids.”

“Trust me. I had my moments when I fell apart. Mostly in the shower, but there were a few times that I crawled into the closet with a pillow over my face to hide the sobs. Plus, a time or two, I lost my shit in the car and tried to break my steering wheel as I slammed my hands on it.”
