Chapter Thirty-One
Gideon
Ijoined the mistress and her mate along with Angelina, Corbin, and two elders that they introduced me to in the suite that the mistress was given.I felt out of place to be with such influential people, but they seemed to accept me immediately.
The mistress took a seat and motioned for me to take one across from her.“I would like to thank you for taking my sister in and for being there for her.”
“It was my pleasure, Mistress.I had heard that she was wandering, and I had been looking for her.”
“Why?”
“To help prepare for a fight.I did not doubt that you would return, and I wanted to have people that could help in the war to come.”
“Your help will be appreciated and rewarded,” she stated before she looked around at the group.“I have decided that we are going to work with Portage.While I am not happy about how he came back into my life, we are going to need his help.”
“Do you trust him?”Angelina asked.
She laughed.“Not on your life, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t work together.He knows that he needs us, and sadly, I know that we need him.”
She proceeded to tell us about the human-turned and what they were able to do.She also admitted to having considered doing the same but had yet to set that plan into motion.
“Does this mean you are going to allow all of our breed to create?”Clayton asked.
“I was thinking more along the lines of granting permission on a case-by-case basis—after we deal with this situation.Once we get back to the compound, I will ask those humans with us if they would like to join the human-turned breed.I’ll make sure to explain the good and bad sides of that choice, and they can decide on their own.Unlike Portage, I will allow them to make their own choice.He says that he gave them a choice, but I highly doubt that.”
“But will we have time to train them?”
“Maybe, but we will have to do as much as we can.Our breed are natural fighters, and I know that most humans are not.We will look for strong ones, tactical ones.Ones that do know how to fight and want to do so.”
“If you think that is the best way,” Henry replied.“Then I am on board.I know none of us trusts Portage, but with what is happening in our world, I think we need to work with him.”
“I agree,” Clayton said with a sigh.
The mistress turned to me.“Gideon, my sister has told me that you have a lot of connections.”
“I do.”
“Then I would like you to return to my compound and help us plan.You can coordinate with your groups from there.”
“When do we leave?”Angelina asked.
The mistress eyed her momentarily and then stood.“Angelina, you and Corbin are to stay here, and I assume Hugh will want to remain here as well, but that is his choice.”
“Why the hell do we need to stay here?”
“Because I need you here so that we can communicate with Portage, and I want you to watch the man.He is going to allow you to work with the human-turned and other things that he has been working on.”
“Fine, if I have to,” Angelina said sullenly.
“Also,” she said and then paused.“I have some information for Corbin.”
“Me?What is that?”
The elder, Henry, looked nervous for a second and glanced at the mistress and then Corbin “Actually, it is me that has the information.”
“What is that?”Corbin asked him.
“You are aware that you are not of my blood, are you not?”
