Chapter Seven

Gideon

Holy shit! What had she just done? The man had barely taken any of her blood, and now he was dead.

I was in awe of her—and scared shitless at the same time.I turned and watched her leave, then Corbin whispered into my head,“It’s really true.”

I glanced at him, but I didn’t reply.I didn’t need to.I knew what he was talking about and how that incident had bothered him for quite a while afterward.

“Get rid of Vegas.I need to talk to Angelina.”I dashed away before anyone could say anything else and locked down my mind as people started to overload it with a barrage of questions.

“Angelina.”I grabbed her arm and pulled her to a stop.

She hiked a brow.“Did you want to try your luck?”

“Oh, hell no.”I dropped her arm and stepped back, holding my hands up.“There was a rumor about it, but I’d never seen it happen.”

“Seen what?Someone die?”

She began to walk up the stairs again, and I joined her.“No, killing someone with blood. How did you do that?”

“It’s magic.”She grinned as she glanced my way.

“No, seriously.”

Angelina sighed and peered around before she spoke quietly.“My blood is toxic to anyone who is not a reborn.”

“Are you serious?”

“Do you need another test subject to prove it?”

“No,” I reassured her quickly.

She crossed her arms over her chest.“Look, I didn’t want to hurt the guy, but he was going to keep pushing, and it wasn’t going to be long before others did too.I needed to prove something back there, and now none of them are going to be stupid enough to think they can come to sip on wine Angelina in the middle of the night.”

“I’m pretty sure most of the people aren’t going to want to come within ten feet of you now.”We started walking again.

She shrugged a shoulder.“I don’t mind that.”

“Has your blood always been that way?”

“No, it was fine when I was younger, but then it slowly started changing. My mate began to notice the effects, but that was after Kristin’s mate went crazy.Trent ended up killing himself, but it wasn’t until recently that we realized it was her blood that had caused him to do that.”She paused.“Needless to say, we don’t share blood with just anyone.”

“Obviously.”I hesitated.“What happened to your mate?”

“He’s still around, but we aren’t together.”Her voice sounded sad.“To be honest, it’s a tremendous weight to live under. You have no idea how hard it is to hold someone off in the heat of the moment. For years, Kristin and I could only share blood, and we feed only from humans, then we found Hugh, and—”

“And what?”I asked after she stopped talking.

“And I’m done talking about this.I’m tired, and I need to change clothes again.”

We paused outside of my room.“Well, I know you said you didn’t want to lead anyone, but you kind of proved differently tonight.”

“Because I scared them all straight?”She laughed.“Hardly.”

“I’m serious, Angelina. The way you spoke up tonight and quashed a bunch of rumors, no one is going to openly disobey you for fear of your blood.”

I heard someone approaching and shifted to see Corbin heading our way, looking a bit nervous.
