Kristin and I made love again, and then Briella woke up to feed again.Kristin retrieved her and came back to bed to nurse her there.I brushed my hand over the child’s head, and I swear I could feel how happy she was.

Kristin was watching me.“You can feel it, can’t you?”

“What?”

“How she approves of you, of us.”

“You think you can feel that from her?”

She nodded.“Yes, I do.She can’t talk, I know that, but she shares with me her feelings.Isaac is right; she is happy with us together, and your blood made her so very strong.”

“I was worried there for a little while.”

“I know, I was too.”

She shifted to stare at her daughter.“She worries for her father.”

I was going to ask how she could get those feelings across, but I figured I would trust Kristin on this.“Then what are we going to do?”

Kristin hesitated.“We are going after him, not tomorrow but the next night.”

I stared at her.“Will you be strong enough? What if we sent others out for him?”

She shook her head.“No, I need to go.I know where he is, and as much as I want to believe that it might be humans, I think it is someone else.”

“Who?”

“Portage.”

“Shit,” I muttered as I ran a hand over my face.“Are you sure?”

“Yes.I was able to pick up a few things from Hugh.”

I shook my head.“Okay, I’m going to take your word for it.What are we going to do?”

“We are going to rescue Hugh and my sister and bring them back.Once they are back, we will finalize our plans to end this war.”

I had a bad feeling about this.“What if you stayed back here—”

She gave me a no-nonsense look.“Don’t even say the rest of that sentence, Zander.I’m going, and that is final.”

“Alright.”I leaned back onto the pillow and stared at the ceiling.I knew when to push something and when not to.

“Don’t get pissed at me because I said I was going.”

I laughed.“I’m not pissed, Kristin.I know better than to argue with you.If you feel it is safe enough, then you go, but I’m coming with you.”

She chuckled.“Ha!Like I would go without you.”

Ihad stayed with Kristin all day, and when Isaac anxiously arrived back, he rushed in the door and stopped in mid-stride, looking between us.“The mating is done!”

“Yes, Isaac, it is.”Kristin laughed.

He grinned.“I am happy for you both; now, where is the child?”

“She is sleeping.”

He moved quickly to her side and stood shifting back and forth on the balls of his feet as he stared down at her.
