The sex was hot, but anything with Angelina in the mix was freaking scorching.I was glad that she could help Gideon.I had hated talking about sex when he was around, and the few women I had been with had been on the down-low so as not to rub it in his face.
Although he said it was no big deal, I knew it was ahugedeal.I mean, how could it not have been when the man couldn’t have sex?Even though I hadn’t had much sex since Tonya died, I’d had my share.It would have killed me knowing I’d never be able to do that again.Obviously, the guy was stronger than me—at least mentally.
When Angelina screamed, we raced into the bathroom.I half expected her to be bleeding from some massive gash on her body, but she was physically okay.
“What’s wrong, Lena?”
“Hugh!Hugh is here, and he’s hurt—bad!”She was gasping for air.
“What are you talking about?”
She swooned, and I caught her before she hit the floor.I carried her into the other room and laid her on the bed.
“What the hell?”Gid asked as he stared at her.
I closed my eyes and focused on Angelina.Deep in her mind, I saw what she had just experienced—a building of pain and then a burning heat.I heard the echo of a scream that wasn’t hers nor mine.
Jesus, was the man here?
I leaned over her and tapped her cheeks.“Lena, wake up.Wake up, Angelina.”
Her eyelids fluttered slightly, and then her eyes flashed open.There was a white glow to them as she sat up so fast we almost collided heads.“Hugh is here!”
“Yeah, you said that.I saw the memory in your mind.Where is he?”
“I don’t know.”She scooted off the bed, still naked.“I have to go find him, though.”
“Whoa!Wait a second.”Gideon held up his hands as he stepped in front of her.“Before you go racing off, what did you feel?”
“Pain and burning.He’s being tortured, Gid.”She looked at me.“I’m sorry, Corbin, but I have to go find him.If he’s here, that’s not good.”
“Why not?”I asked her.I mean, I knew what that meant for me, but why did she think it wasn’t good?
“If he is here, the bunker is open, and it’s too early.Kristin said it would be locked down for a year, so either she lied or somehow he left.”
“Maybe he got pissed at her,” I suggested.
She shook her head.“Kristin would never release him, no matter how badly he angered her while she was still carrying the baby.”Angelina put her face into her hands.“Oh, my god!Maybe she lost the baby.”
“There has to be a plausible explanation for it, Angelina,” Gid said.
“I’m sure there is, but until I get to him, I won’t know the answers.”
She rushed over to her clothes and started dressing at superspeed.
“What do you think you are going to do?Walk up to Portage and ask him where he is?”
“Something like that.”
“Angelina, you are going to get us kicked out of here.”
She was in my face a split second later.“I don’t fucking care if he kicks us out.Do you not realize that if Hugh is out, there is a way back into that compound!I can get back to my sister, and we can figure out what to do.”
“But didn’t you agree with Portage to help work out a deal between your sister and him to put aside differences so they can fight the humans?”
