“I will let you know when we are there. The less you know, the better.”

“Alright, Mistress, but can I ask you a question?”

“You may.”

“What are you going to do when you get here?”

“Well, that depends on the welcome that I receive, but be prepared for anything and be close to Angelina. We might need your assistance.”

“I know you don’t know me, and you have no reason to trust me, but you might not want to come in with guns blazing if you know what I mean.Portage has been torturing your mate to get you to come here.He wants to talk.He wants your help.”

“My help?”

“Yes, he has a plan to end this war, but he needs your help.”

I pondered that for a minute.“You’re right.I do not have any reason to trust you, but I will listen.I would also suggest that you still be prepared. If Portage does anything to harm any of my people, or Hugh, you, or my sister, he will pay with his life.”

“I understand, Mistress, but why am I of concern to you?”

“That conversation is for another time, Corbin. You are important to someone from my past, and therefore important to me.”

He sounded confused when he responded,“Okay.I trust that you will explain that later.”

“I believe your father will explain that to you in due time. Now, be ready for my word.”

“Yes, Mistress.”

I closed off my mind without another word. So, Portage wanted to work with me.Could he be trusted?I didn’t think so, but if Corbin asked me to listen, I would.

I glanced at Henry. He was an honest man, a good man, and I had to hope that he had instilled those same values in the man he had raised.

As we got closer, I became more in tune with both Hugh and Angelina.Hugh was in agonizing pain, and Angelina was a mess.I shook my head as my power zipped under my skin.It was going to take a lot not to drain Portage and tear his head off.

We parked the transports about a mile away and went on foot.Memories of my past kept flashing through my mind, from rescuing Alex to rescuing Trent.I always seemed to be trying to recover my mates, although Hugh was not mine now.

As we approached the old hotel, I stared at the building from a grove of trees. To anyone, it looked abandoned, but I could feel a large number of breed members inside.

Corbin had said that human-turned had created a shield, and like many years ago when we had gone to free Trent from Leo’s grasp, I could see the haze of the dome over the building.

Would we be able to cross that? How long after we did would they be alerted to our presence?I had to think it would not be long.

“Corbin, I need you to be ready. We are at the southeast corner of the building.”

“On it!”

I broke through the trees and moved quickly toward the shield; as I fought against the urge to flee, Zander grabbed my arm.“You won’t be able to go through that. It’s too strong. It’s built to repeal.I can feel it.”

“I can too.”

“Let me try something.”

Zander put his hands in front of him, just inches from the shield, and his hands began to glow in a blue light. He shifted his hands further apart, and the protection parted, but he was struggling.“Go!Now!”

We all zipped under his arms, and then he jumped through at the last second.

“Corbin, now!”I called to him as I raced toward the door.We were all against the building when the door opened.

“Thank you,” I said to him as I slipped past him.Ryker and Jett stepped in front of me, both checking Corbin out carefully.Joshua stood at my side, his hand in mine.
