“Mike, what are you going to do? You aren’t going to hurt him, are you? They have a son. They are happy. Can’t you just pretend you don’t know?”

“No, I can’t pretend I don’t know, Candy. You have no clue how big this is.”

“But why? It’s over! You’re out of the club! What does it matter now?”

“It matters, Candy. It matters a whole fucking lot. Now go pack a bag and get one ready for Harley.”

“You realize that you are kidnapping me, right?” She lifted her chin, her blue eyes bright with fury.

“Yeah, sweetheart, I realize that, but I can’t trust you not to tell them I am coming. I need to see his face and speak to him, and then I’ll decide what I will do.”

“I can’t believe I ever thought you were a good man,” she growled, and I yanked her arm as she tried to pass me. I pushed her up against the fridge and pressed my body against hers.

“I was trying to be a good man for you, Candy, but now you will see the man I am. Don’t fuck with me. I’m not playing games here.”

Her breathing was rapid, and her pupils were dilated. I wondered if it was from fear that I would hurt her or excitement that I was roughly holding her against me. I decided to test that and put my face close to hers. She turned her face away, and I saw her pulse ticking wildly in her throat as I leaned closer. “If we were alone, I’d strip you naked and fuck you right here.” Her body shivered, and she closed her eyes. I pressed my lips to her neck once and whispered, “You want to hate me, but your body is giving you away, Candy. Right now, you wish you could fuck me too.”

Her eyes popped open, and she turned her face to mine. Our noses brushed as she hissed, “The hell I do.”

“I bet if I stuck my hand between your legs, you’d be wet right now. Want me to find out?”

She pushed against my chest. “Get away from me, Bollard. If you want to get on that plane, I suggest you back off so I can get us packed, or you’ll miss the flight.”

I stared at her, then touched her bottom lip with my thumb. I hated how I made her feel, but I had to. Until I was face-to-face with Ryan, I had to keep her afraid of me and what I would do.

Harley was over the moon excited about being on a plane, and for a while, I worried that Candy would say something to someone about how she was being kidnapped. She was right, I was forcing her to go, but if she hadn’t wanted to, she could have found a way to get away from me.

I even let her go to the bathroom alone. She had already told me the general area where he lived, so if she didn’t come with me for some reason, I would eventually find him. It might take me weeks, but I was determined.

I didn’t have to worry about that, though. Candy was determined to go with me and protect Ryan and Cara. I gave her credit for that.

Harley fell asleep on the plane and woke up when we landed. Before we left, I had Candy reserve a car for us, and as soon as we were off the plane, we went straight to the rental place. We had only brought along two small carry-ons since we only planned to be here for a day or two at the most.

I was nervous as I drove, following Candy's directions. We didn’t talk otherwise, and Harley sat in the back, taking in the new scenery. I kept wondering what I would say and what Ryan would tell me when I questioned him.

We turned down a dirt driveway onto a small ranch, and I eyed the property. It was a nice place, not that I wanted to live in Texas, but it was nice.

We pulled up to the house, and I parked the car, letting my eyes drift over the property. Candy was climbing out quickly when the back door opened to the house, and Cara stepped out. She was smiling until I opened my door and she saw me. Then her face paled under her tan, and she froze in midstep.

Cara glanced toward the barn, and I turned to study it. Is that where he was? Cara began to rush forward. “What the hell are you doing here?” she asked, then turned to her sister. “Candy! I can’t believe you brought him here!”

I stepped around the front of the car. “I didn’t give her a choice,” I told Cara gruffly.

Cara paled even further. “Did you kidnap my sister?”

Candy suddenly stepped in. “It’s okay, Cara. I’m okay.”

“This is not okay!” Cara yelled, and her eyes went to the barn again.

“He’s in there?” I pointed at the barn, and she started to shake her head, but I glanced at the barn just as Ryan stepped out. Like Cara, he stopped midstep when he saw me, but then he moved quickly.

I started toward him. “What the hell are you doing here?” he yelled as he came toward me. Fury radiated through his eyes, but I felt something different. I no longer felt angry.

“I could ask you the same question! What the hell areyoudoing here? You were supposed to be dead, Ryan! What the fuck!” The two of us stopped a couple of feet away from each other. “I fucking held Cara in my arms while she cried because they told us you were dead!”

His gaze popped over my shoulder and then back to my face. “I’m sorry.”
