“What are you doing?” I asked him.

He lifted a brow. “I think you know damn well what I am doing. Candy Winston.” He paused, and the voice that spoke next was husky and filled with emotion. “I love you. Harley loves you. I’m a free man now, with no criminal record over my head. I have a wonderful life to build, and I need an engineer at my side to make sure it stays stable and strong. I want that to be you.”

“And I want you to be my mommy!” Harley quickly added as I blinked back tears.

“Do you really love me?”

He nodded. “I realized just how much when we were in Texas. I couldn’t imagine a life without you. You have opened not only my eyes but also my heart, and I want to explore it all with you.”

I grinned at him as a tear slipped out of my eyes. “Uh-oh, Dad, you made her cry.”

Mike and I chuckled, and I responded, “It’s okay, Harley. These are happy tears.”

“I hope so,” Mike said huskily. “Candy Winston, will you marry me? Will you marry us?”

I looked between father and son and knew I could never walk away from these two. I nodded. “Yes. Yes, I will marry you, Mike, and I will be your mommy, Harley.”

Mike pulled the ring out of the box with shaking hands and slipped it on my finger. It was just a wee bit big but could easily be adjusted, and it was gorgeous. Mike came to his full height, and the two of us stared at one another.

“I love you, Candy. I love everything about you and can’t imagine living my life without you.”

I took his face in my hands. “I love you too, Michael.” I kissed Mike, and then Harley was tugging on my shirt.

“And me too! Can I call you Mommy now?”

Mike was grinning as I pulled back and squatted down to Harley. “I love you too, Harley, and yes, if you want to call me Mom, you can.”

He threw his arms around my neck and practically strangled me, but a moment later, he let go and raced for the door. “I gotta go tell my friends I have a new mom!”

He was gone before either of us could stop him, but that didn’t matter because now I had a few moments alone with Mike. “Did the judge really grant your expungement?”

“He did, and he told me to keep surrounding myself with the right people. I do believe that you and your family are the right people. He said so himself.”

I looked at him, confused, “Did you see Judge Sherman?”

“Yes, I did.”

I laughed. “He is one of my dad’s best friends.”

“Hey, since he’s a judge, do you think we might be able to get him to do our wedding?”

“I’m sure we could ask.” I wrapped my arms around his neck, staring into his soft brown eyes. “I love you, Michael Bollard.”

He grinned. “Do you? I mean, really?”

“Yes, really.”

“I’m glad, sweetheart, but I couldn’t imagine doing this without you.”

“Me either,” I said before we took a few moments to kiss. When he pulled back, he had a serious look on his face.

“How long do you want to wait before we try having a kid of our own?”

I blinked. “You want us to have a child?”

“I want us to have at least one, if not two.”

“Well,” I said with a cheeky grin, “all I have to do is visit my doctor to remove my implant, and then we are good to start trying.”
