Page 72 of Stay Over

“Guys, why don’t you step around to the side of the house?” Archer suggests. “I’m going to cause a distraction. You’ve got maybe five minutes before people know you’re missing.” He drops his arm from around my shoulders and takes off, running toward the homemade slip and slide. When he gets close, he lets out a loud yell and launches himself down the slide.

Maverick and Merrick yell out and follow him, and suddenly, there’s a crowd.

Not caring where we are, Brooks takes my hand and leads me to the side of the house. “You’re okay?” he asks, his voice gruff.

“I’m fine. Archer was just being protective.”

He nods. His eyes hold mine, and I would give anything to know what he’s thinking. “Good,” he finally says.

“Does he know about us?” I ask.

He shrugs. “It’s hard for me not to watch you when we’re in the same room together. My brothers might have caught on to that. I didn’t tell them about us. Just told them that I have a crush.” The corner of his mouth tilts in a grin, and he reaches out and pushes my hair over my shoulder. “You look beautiful.”

I step closer to him. “I’m glad you were able to make it.”

He takes another step and places his hands on either side of my back. We’re so close I need to do something with my hands, so I wrap them around his neck. My heart is racing because I know anyone could walk around the corner at any time and catch us.

Brooks lowers his forehead to mine. “Can I kiss you?” he asks, his voice low and gritty.

“You never have to ask me that.”

He moves in and presses his lips to mine. It’s a soft press at first, and then he takes it further, his tongue sliding past my lips and gliding against mine. We could be standing here six seconds, six minutes, or six hours, I’m not really sure. I’ve lost all track of time. Nothing exists in this moment but the two of us.

This kiss feels different from all the others before it. I wish I could explain how, but I can’t seem to find the words in my Brooks-induced fog I’ve suddenly found myself in. He slows the kiss and places his forehead back against mine.

“We should get back out there.”

“Yeah,” I agree, but neither one of us make an effort to move.

“How long do we have to stay?” he asks me.

“What?” I pull back so I can see his eyes.

“How long do we have to stay here? I want to kiss you and hold your hand and love on you, and I can’t do that here. When can we leave?”

“I rode with Piper.”

“Damn. All right, well, I guess we should go back to the party.” He kisses me one more time before dropping his hands and stepping away. “You go back first. I need a minute.”

My eyes fall to his scrub pants and the very obvious erection that the thin material does nothing to hide. “I’m sorry.”

He huffs out a laugh. “Baby, never be sorry for making my cock hard. Hell, you do that just by breathing.” He reaches his hand out, and I take it. “That’s just what you do to me, Palmer. I can’t control it, and fuck, I wouldn’t even if I could.”

“There are a lot of things women have to endure that men don’t, but this is one thing we are able to hide well. That’s a bonus in our column.”

“What are you hiding, beautiful?” He steps closer, his hand still holding mine. “Tell me,” he urges.

“I’m wet.”

He growls. “Your pussy’s wet for me?”

He’s asking if it’s him or that loser John. I can hear it in the tone of his voice. “Always. Only you,” I say, giving him the reassurance it seems like he’s searching for.

He pulls me into him, and his hand slides under my sundress. His fingers glide beneath my lace panties, and he groans. “All this is for me?” he asks, running his fingers through my slick folds.

“All. You.” I’m already breathless, which is no surprise. This is always my reaction to him.

He slides one long digit inside me, and I grip his biceps to keep myself upright. “Brooks.”
