CHAPTER 25

SILVER

After Jax left the room, the mood was pretty much destroyed. Wells tried to bring me back, but I just couldn't get out of my head. Frustrated and confused, I end up taking a quick shower, then get dressed for the day. I’m sitting in front of my dresser, doing my hair and makeup, when Wells walks in carrying a donut and coffee.

“Wouldn't want to be cursed,” he says, setting them down in front of me, before running his hands through my hair. I snort, thinking about my shirt, then sigh and lean back against his stomach.

“I’m sorry, Snow. I don’t know what to say. I’m as confused as you.” He leans down and gives me a quick kiss, then leaves. The guys don’t start classes until after the winter holiday—something about only having one semester left.

I finish getting ready. Then I take a moment to breathe. In times like this, I used to talk to Luna; she would have gotten a kick out of me having issues with not one, but three guys.

“I miss you Sis,” I whisper, then take a few bites of the donut.

A noise behind me makes me pause.Meowing again?I jump up and run for the door, walking out to the garden but nothing’s there.I’m going crazy.

“Good morning,” someone suddenly says behind me, startling me. I spin around, placing my hand on my chest to calm my racing heart.

“Professor Luke! You startled me.” I nervously giggle. “What are you even doing here?” My eyes go wide. “Oh my god, that was rude. I’m sorry.” Embarrassed, I look to my bare toes.Oh, I need shoes.

He laughs. “It’s okay, Silver. I was actually hoping we could chat. Maybe I can accompany you to class?”

I nod, walking toward the door to open it, letting him in. “I need to get my bag still, and grab some shoes. Can I get you a drink? We have coffee?” I offer, turning the corner to the kitchen. As I step into the room, I catch sight of Donnie leaning against the counter, shirtless, his toned chest on display.Wait, he has a tattoo? It looks like the one Wellson has over his heart.

I freeze and Luke bumps into my back. He grabs my hips to steady himself and tingles explode all over my body. I step away, suddenly unsteady, grasping the counter for balance. What was that?

“Princess, you okay?” Donnie asks, placing his mug down and moving toward me. He looks behind me and notices I’m not alone. “Luke, what brings you here?” he says, stepping closer to bump knuckles. Such a drastic change from his weird attitude last night.

“Hey Don. I came to walk Silver to class—wanted to discuss something with her, but she looks a little faint. Maybe she should stay home and rest today.”

I move to disagree but Donnie cuts me off. “Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. Yesterday was a rough day for her. I’ll let Alara know she won’t be in her classes.” He walks Luke back outside, pulling his phone out on the way.

What is going on right now? Am I invisible?

I wait for him to return, but he seems to be taking his sweet time, so I take a seat at the kitchen table, crossing my arms. When he enters, he raises an eyebrow at me, confusion on his face. I wave at the chair in front of me, and he takes a seat.

“What the fuck was that?” I explode, no longer able to contain myself. “Did someone appoint you my father, or better yet, my keeper, Donovan Blake?” He goes to open his mouth but I cut him off. “I am an adult. I will decide whether or not I go to class or stay home. I feel perfectly fine. When I walked in the door, I got blindsided by your abs, you ass. No need for me to miss classes. You just need to wear a damn shirt,” I huff, glancing down at his muscular shoulders and broad chest once more. They do have a similar tattoo, but his has flames instead of waves.

"My eyes are up here, Princess."

During my rant, he’d started to glare at me, but now he’s suppressing a smile. Which only angers me more. He leans forward in his chair and looks at me. “Are you done?” he demands. I glare, but nod.

He stands and walks to the fridge, pulling out a box and setting it on the counter. He spins around and grabs a plate and two forks. I watch him, still simmering with annoyance. Opening the box, he cuts the largest slice of cheesecake he can fit on the plate, and brings it over to the table, setting it in the middle and giving me a wink. Handing me a fork, he takes a seat. I stare at him like he’s an alien. He rolls his eyes, sticking the fork into the side of the dessert and removing a bite to hold up to my lips. I open reluctantly and he smiles.

An explosion of flavor hits my tongue and I moan. He watches me swallow, then gets himself a bite, but not before saying, “Good girl.”

I pick up my own fork and take another nibble before speaking. “You confuse the shit out of me, Donovan Blake. You’re so hot and cold. I just don’t know what to do with you.”

He sighs, setting his fork down. “I’m not the only one who likes to give out mixed signals, Silver. I know what Wells and Jax have been doing with you isn’t what you’re used to. If I didn’t know for myself, I would think you were a prude.”

Wow.God, he can be such a jerk at times. I narrow my eyes and push myself up from the table. “For a moment there Donovan, I thought maybe, just maybe, we could have a nice conversation together.” I snort and run my fingers through my hair, messing up the perfect curls I’d done for class. “I should have known—we are just fire and ice. I don't think that’ll ever change.”

Since I no longer have class, I move toward the hall but he stands, grabbing my elbow, spinning me back to him.

His face full of fire, Donovan snaps, “Seriously Silver, are you ever going to stop acting like such a bitch?” He snarls at me then starts to pace. “I try to be nice to you and still you treat me this way... Arrow gets hugs and smiles. Wells attacked you in the kitchen with his mouth the first day and yet you’re sleeping with him.”

Why does he look so defeated? Is he pouting?

“I’m the only one you treat this way,” he continues.
