Logan sang one more verse before going into the chorus. It was a love song about the idea of a woman he once knew.

He didn't look at Claire when he sang it, because then his brain would have known he was nervous singing for her. He didn’t look at her at all as he played and sang—not even a glance.

He looked up once he finished the song, and she had a hand over her face.

"Are you crying? Rita cried."

"I'm about to, but no, I just… Logan… how many… what do you… how many fans do you have?"

"Fans? No fans. I do okay when I go busking, but I wouldn't call anyone my fan."

She reached over the guitar case and touched his arm. "It's official. I'm your first fan. I'm honored. I think my grandmother was first, but I'm the one who officially asked and had this conversation with you."

He laughed.

"I'm serious. I'm your first fan. I loved that song. What song is that? Did you write it?"

"Yes."

"Is Madeline your girlfriend?" she asked.

He shook his head. "Childhood crush."

"Oh, wow. Wow. Great song, Logan."

She kept calling him Logan, and something was off with it. Something was wrong. He knew that if anyone had fans, it wasn't Logan. His fresh start was going to come with a new name.

"What are you thinking about?" she asked. "Madeline?"

"No. I'm actually thinking about a new name."

"A stage name?"

He nodded.

"For yourself? Do you not like the name Logan Lacey?"

"I like it fine. But something needs to change."

Rita had a Bible verse painted on the wall in the room, and Logan knew that he was going to take the name that was written there. He had noticed it there since his arrival.

Somewhere in the back of his mind, Logan thought that taking a Biblical name was symbolic that he believed what Claire said. It was more than a stage name in his heart, but he passed it off as no big deal.

"I like that name right there. Micah. I was looking at it earlier and thinking about this. I think it goes with my last name."

"Micah Lacey? Just for the stage or for your whole life?"

"My whole life, probably," he said.

She shrugged. "I like it. Micah. A fresh start. Are you going to tell Mister Washington to switch it?"

"They barely know my name yet, anyway. I'll just tell them it's Micah when they ask next time."

"Okay, Micah Lacey. I like it so much. Do you have any other songs? I need to go in like ten minutes, and I want to hear another one."

He had another one in mind—one he had been working on since he moved in. Claire was the inspiration for it. He changed the woman to have dark hair, which was opposite of Claire. He only did that so that his feelings weren't obvious. Claire Alexander would never be his, and there was no sense in writing songs about her. He would make the women in his songs the opposite of Claire, and no one would ever find out about his infatuation.
