"No, I mean, even if I stay off of it, it'll fill back up. That's just how it happens sometimes."

"Oh, yeah, okay, I see what you're saying," she said, nodding. "Yeah, just give me a call, and we'll figure out a place to meet up if it needs to be drained again."

"Thank you so much. I can't believe this was your first time. You were sooo good."

"Thank you, I try to be gentle. I knew about this injury, but I just never drained one. I wasn't sure what gauge syringe to use. I've seen cauliflower ear once it's hardened but I knew nothing about the process."

"Well, whatever you did was great. And guys will tell you to put a clip on it for a few minutes after you drain it. To give it some pressure. I have magnets in my bag. They work the best."

"Oh, okay, I see," I said nodding.

Paul shook Grace's hand and then turned with a smile to shake Alec's hand. "Thanks, bro, for letting your wife do this. She's so much better than my last gym doctor."

"Glad she could help," Alec said, nodding diplomatically even though he felt like punting Paul like a football into the next room.

"Thanks again," Paul said on his way out.

Grace looked at Alec as she took off and threw away her gloves. "I need to remember to look into those magnets," she said. "I was lucky I had syringes on hand. Billy told me we'd have ears to drain every once in a while, but I didn't think I'd have one in the first week."

"Ozzy had one on his ear recently, but it wasn't nearly that bad," Alec said. He leaned in and kissed his wife, and she came to him with a smile. She smelled like fruit and flowers, and he knew he smelled like sweat. He had been working out for over an hour.

He looked down at his own chest when they broke apart. "I'm sorry."

"Don't be," she said. "I don't mind your sweat." She licked her own lips. "You do taste like salt," she added.

He kissed her again because he couldn’t watch her lick her lips without doing it.

"How was your training session?"

"It was good. My back's a little tight, but it loosened up when I got out there." Alec tilted his head at her. "What the heck, Grace?"

He trailed off, and Grace said, "What the heck, what?"

"What the heck with Paul trying to come in here, flexing?"

She laughed. "I had no idea what you were going to say just now. Paul? We already told you about his shirt. He just didn't want to get blood on it. He was convinced I would."

"Yeah, but I know how it feels to have you nursing me and taking care of me, and then he's in here all single with his shirt off."

She stopped and looked at Alec. His hair was damp with sweat, and he had his gloves tucked under one arm. She reached up and adjusted a piece of hair on his forehead.

"I'm all sweaty," he said, pulling away a little.

"I don't care," she assured him, drawing even closer. She gestured to her medical stuff. "I'm going to glove up again and clean this up." She peered at him again, looking hopeful. He wanted to take her home and eat her alive. "You don't have to be anywhere until band practice, right?"

"Right," he said. "And that's not till seven o'clock tonight."

"Right. Till what time?" she said.

"What?"

"How long does it last?" she clarified.

"We're usually done by eleven."

"Okay, I was just wondering." She shrugged. "If you have nothing until practice tonight, that means we have all day to hang out together."

"That is what that means," Alec agreed.

"I have to stop at your mom's. She texted me last night about some meat she had in her freezer. I'm going over there to pick it up. I was thinking I could go over there and get it and then meet you back home."

"That'll give me a few minutes to get in the shower."

"Yep," she said, already cleaning her mess. "I'll come find you. You might still be in the shower. I never know."

"Oh, you never know?" Alec asked with a wide-eyed, mischievous expression.

"Yep. You never know where I'll find you," she said.

Alec gave her a sly smile. "I can't promise where I'll be. I'll probably still be in the shower."
