I moved to stand closer to Billy but made sure I kept Jack’s body between us.

Despite the fact I knew the Charon MC would come to my aide at any time, and all I needed to do was ask, I tried to avoid going that route. The club tended to use more permanent solutions than I wanted on my conscience if I could help it. That, and I hated having to drag others into my messes. I preferred to clean up after myself. But more than any of that, was the fact I didn’t want either of those assholes coming after me later on. If I worded things right, I might even be able to curb them from ever trying to pull this shit on any other woman again.

I caught Billy’s gaze. “You ever heard of the Charon MC, Billy? Motorcycle club based down in Bridgewater?”

He stopped struggling against Jack’s hold and frowned at me. “Yeah, who hasn’t? What do they have to do with anything?”

The air in the hallway seemed to still around us as all the men waited for my answer.

“They’ve known me since I was a kid. Their vice president treats me as though I were his daughter. He’s the real protective type, too. So, if you don’t want me to press charges for the shit you pulled tonight, I could always give him a call instead. I’m sure he and a few of the guys would be more than happy to come up here and deal with you and Bob. Teach you the error of your ways and make sure neither of you ever attack another woman again. What do you say? Should I call him or have Jack call in the cops?”

The color had drained from his face and his eyes opened wide as I’d spoken. He didn’t verbally respond, but I was satisfied he now understood how badly he’d fucked up picking me to attack tonight. I patted Jack on the shoulder before I returned to lean against the wall where I’d been.

“Call the cops, Jack. I doubt Billy-boy really wants the other option of how we could clean this mess up.”

Jack was focused on me. “Yeah, I don’t really want to be on their bad side either. And the cops have already been called. They should be here any second.”

I was nodding his way when the rear door banged open, and two deputies came striding toward us.

I was starting to wonder why I ever bothered to make plans, because they seemed to always end in disaster lately.
