He had no words. She’d rendered him speechless.

“Wow.”

Her words brought his eyes back to her face.

“You look incredible,” she said, stepping into the hallway. She reached out with one hand and adjusted his bowtie. “Such a baller.”

That’s what he’d thought too.

But he was nothing compared to her.

Her smile was blinding, and he stopped breathing for a second.

He tried to swallow but found it difficult.

“Can you help me?” She turned around to show him her completely bare back. And thank God she couldn’t see his expression because he would not have been able to hide his thoughts.

Which were lustful.

And not the way he should look at a friend.

It wasn’t like he’d completely forgotten how gorgeous she was. But he’d been able to compartmentalize a lot of it. It was a tactic that had served him well over the years. A special compartment for everything. The compartments didn’t intersect or blend unless he reorganized them in his head first.

Her exposed back blew up all of his compartments.

“I have this chain thing I’m supposed to hook…” In her fingers dangled a sparkly strand of jewelry. “But I can’t get it.”

He inhaled slowly and reached for the chain. She let go as soon as he had it and dropped her arms to her sides.

Her skin looked unbelievably soft. He wanted to touch it. To run his fingers from her neck, down her spine, to where the dressbarelycovered her bottom.

Black tattoo ink peeked out of the border between skin and dress.

That’s right.

She’d said she’d had a Jamiroquai tattoo on her butt.

That had been a tidbit he’d stuck into the “too sexy to think about” compartment. Right next to the way she danced with her arms over her head when she thought she was alone, and the way her neck smelled when he hugged her.

His head filled with curse words and variations thereof.

“Can you see where the catch is?”

He twitched at her soft question.

“Catherine showed me how to hook it, but I couldn’t manage. Now I’m worried we’ll be late.”

“We won’t be late,” he said, his voice thick.

He tried to swallow again. And again, it was too difficult.

He frowned at his own distractibility and shook his head to help focus.

Okay, where was this hook?

He found a small loop on the opposite side. That must be it. He clipped the sparkly chain to it and then made sure it laid correctly along her lower back. It was a diamond bow positioned just on the curve where her ass sloped into her back and it matched his tie.

God bless Catherine.
