He hated it when he confused people.

“No, Dave’s right,” Max spoke up around a mouthful (not having learned his lesson at all).

Sabine turned her attention to him, and Dave could swear she was thinking the exact same thing.

“Stop talking with food in your mouth,” she said, incredulous.

Max swallowed and looked down, shamed.

“Aren’t we VIPs?” Leslie asked.

Sabine shot him a smile.

“Then maybe you should have some pizza at the VIPs’ request.”

She adjusted the tray of empties on her hip and dropped her head back for a breath.

“Okay. Fine. I will have one slice with you. But then I have to get back to work. First,” she arched an eyebrow, “I’m taking these down and I’ll bring back refills, ‘kay?”

The pressure in Dave’s chest eased and he relaxed back into the couch.

She came back, ate a slice of pizza, and slipped into easy conversation with him and his oldest friends.

And four hours later, when they were shutting the place down, he had no idea how he’d lost track of all that time.

But his cheeks hurt from laughing, and his stomach was warm and full of food.

CHAPTERFOUR

MYSELF

SABINE

On Monday, she wasn’t as surprised to see Sunshine—er, Dave—at the studio.

And if she were being completely honest (and she always was), she was happy to see him.

Though cautious.

On Sunday while she did her laundry for the week, she also did a little… research.

Yes, that’s what it was. Research.

She started by watching his music videos, which led to award show appearances, which led to vlogs about his dating habits and motivations.

There were alotof people who thought they knew everything about Sunshine Capone.

By the time she went to make dinner last night, her head was fuzzy with opinions.

None of them her own.

How was it that every single person on the internet described someone she hadn’t met? None of the things they said matched with the guy she’d hung out with on Saturday.

It had given her a lot to consider.

So, she’d switched out her regular playlist for his music and found herself enjoying it.

A lot.
