Her cheeks bloomed hot pink and she shook her head. She covered her mouth with her hand and avoided eye contact.

Oh. She had a tattoo that was either embarrassing or in a personal location.

Or both.

Now that was a distracting thought.

“Tell me.” He tugged on her sweater sleeve.

“Okay, but you can’t make fun of me.” She arched an eyebrow at him.

“Never,” he promised.

“I have a rose on my hip…” She dipped her chin and lifted just her eyes to him. “And a Jamiroquai tattoo on my butt.” Her cheeks turned an even hotter pink before she covered her face with both hands.

Dave couldn’t move.

Such was the information she’d just given him.

Slowly, deliberately, he reached for her arms and gently pulled her hands away from her face. Her sweater was even softer than he’d imagined, and he encircled her wrists with his hands.

Her smile, all embarrassed and shy, was quite possibly the hottest thing he had ever seen.

“You said you wouldn’t make fun of me,” she reminded him.

He took a calm breath, completely enamored with the woman in front of him.

“Don’t take this the wrong way,” he said, still holding her wrists in his hands and looking directly into that gorgeous green and gold swirl, “But I am completely in love with you.”

SABINE

“Mama Capone!” Max said loudly from the area of the front door. “Dave! Your mom is here!”

Dave broke eye contact with her and let go of her simultaneously. The sudden disconnect was disorienting enough that Sabine forgot for a second that it was her loft and she should probably greet the newcomer.

Because she was still hanging on to that last thing he’d just said.

He had just said that right? She hadn’t imagined that entire interaction.

Right?

Her eyes darted to Kara who was frowning at her.

Sabine just shook her head and shrugged.

Don’t take it the wrong way?

What?

How?

What?

“Sabine, this is my mom.”

Dave was back in front of her.
