The silence dragged out and I tried to control the growing rage in my belly. If he was toying with me, I would push back at him. I had no idea how, but I’d definitely give it a go.

Esme was ready, raring to attack. I struggled to keep her impulses at bay.

‘The griffin is known as Ghost.’

‘The one who runs the black tourneys?’ I asked.

His expression changed fractionally as he tried to hide his surprise. I contained my smirk. Oh yes, I might have been new to the Other realm, but I wasn’t a total babe in the woods. Just a babe.

‘Yes,’ he confirmed. ‘But I also know her birth name.’

‘Tell me that, and I’ll never tell anyone I got it from you.’

‘Indeed. Bastion could easily have told you himself.’

‘He could tell me who is involved in the child kidnapping?’

He shook his head. ‘Perhaps not, but he could tell you the identity of Ghost.’

My frustration boiled over. ‘Bobby doesn’t have time for you to dick me around. Just give me a name.’

‘What will you give me in return?’

‘What do you want?’

He smiled humourlessly. ‘A favour when I call for one.’

‘I will not agree to any favour that will kill another being or harm my pack in any way.’

He smirked. ‘Conditions noted and agreed. Done and done.’

‘Well?’ I snarled.

‘Charlize,’ he said finally. ‘Bastion’s daughter.’

Fuck.

Chapter 20

‘You’requitecertain?’Idemanded.

‘I am.’

‘Thank you for your help.’ I managed to keep the sarcasm out of my voice; my mum had drilled my manners in to me.

‘The favour will help me justify to my people why I revealed the name, but that isn’t why I helped you, Lucy. Do you want to know why I helped you?’

‘No.’Yes.

He smirked but nevertheless he answered. ‘Because I owed your mother a favour. I now consider the favour repaid. Do you accept?’

‘My mother?’ My mind went blank. He wasn’t talking about Sandy Barrett.

‘Do you accept?’ he repeated.

The blood was rushing through me and my heart was pounding. ‘Yes. Tell me.’

‘Tell you what?’
