Dad looks between Nate's face and his hand. I can see the wheels in his head turning before he takes it. "Nate. Call me Tristen."
I expel a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. I have no clue what I was expecting.
They both shake, followed by Nate turning to me. "Can you help me upstairs? I need to get to work."
Surprised that he wants my help, I’m momentarily stunned, but then I wrap his arm around my shoulder and slowly lead him to the stairs.
Behind me, I hear Dad tell Den and Wes that he's going to go check in with Mom. I don't know what they're going to do, but the selfish prick in me doesn't give a fuck.
