Suddenly, Lilly moves around her shadow and down the steps. Marcus says something, but she waves him off.

What the hell is she doing?

The only reason I’m staying where I am is that Marcus is right on her heels. She approaches the woman, who now stares at her with wide eyes. Lilly has her hands clasped in front of her body and quietly speaks to Chloe's mother. Mrs. Lynn keeps nodding, covering her mouth with her palm as she wipes her eyes with her other. Lilly gives her a genuine smile before she climbs the stage again, and Mrs. Lynn takes her seat.

"My apologies, ladies and gentlemen. Mr. Lynn will remain outside until the press conference concludes. However, I would like to say that his reaction is justified given the circumstances. I appreciate the rest of you following Mr. Weiler's instructions, and we will finish as quickly as possible."

Lilly takes a step back, and a shaking Dr. Stern approaches the podium. Instead of sitting back down, she remains at the side of the stage, flanked between George and Marcus. She studies Nate with furrowed brows, who has his gaze trained on the floor. His lips are pressed in a thin line, and—is he flicking his thumb against his fingers?

My attention gets redirected as Stern introduces himself, followed by giving a brief explanation of the medication Nate received over the years. He only states facts and doesn't go into the many side effects these drugs can cause. I guess that'll be part of the trial. Agent Camden is the last to speak and updates everyone on how this impacts the case. When she finishes, Nate stands from his seat, and Lilly and Camden turn. Agent Lanning reaches behind him and pulls out a set of handcuffs.

Why the hell did no one tell me that this would happen?

Lilly stands stock still, and George places a hand on her lower back as they watch Nate placing his hands together and Lanning putting the cuffs on. Tears are streaming down Lilly's face, but she doesn't make any move to remove them. Nate lifts his eyes to his sister, and before the two agents lead him back toward the other side entrance, he mouths, "I love you."

It’s over.
