Denielle comes to the side of the car and scowls. "Why is your hair drenched?" Then she takes a whiff and mimics Rhys’s reaction. "Oh, my God."

I really don't want to rehash this now, but I am fully aware that neither Den nor Rhys will let it go until they know what happened. I recap the fish incident, and Denielle immediately does a one-eighty on her heels to head back into the building. Wes grabs her around the waist and holds her in place.

"LET ME GO! I will show that little skank what it means to smell like fish. Wait until I get my hands on that bitch!" My best friend is kicking, and with every word, her voice gets louder, but Wes keeps a firm grip on her. He murmurs something in her ear, and she goes limp.

Since when does he have that power over her?

I watch the scene with my head cocked to the side. Den and I need to have some girl time. I seem to have missed a lot over the last few weeks.

Rhys rounds the Defender and plants himself behind the wheel. "Let’s get out of here."

I sigh. "Best words I’ve heard all day."
