I enjoyed kissing Sam. Really, reallydid. Just thinking about it, I felt the same shiver crawling up my spine as I did when he was touching me.

I should feel ashamed for kissing him. For accepting his following kiss. For wanting more.

From between my shielding fingers, my eyes caught sight of the coat still lying in a crumpled mess on the ground.

I got up on my two feet and with cautious steps forward as if the fabric might have come alive and bite me, I picked it up. A waft of Sam’s cologne instantly hit my nostrils. Bold and spicy, just like him.

I really shouldn’t be thinking about my boss. Or smelling him.

I draped the coat over the nearby chair and patted down any invisible creases. Then I wandered off to the bathroom.

As I was greeted with my own reflection in the mirror, I realized that not only was I still wearing last night’s dress but also the smeared makeup all over my face. I desperately needed a hot shower and my face was thirsty for a deep cleanse and moisturizing.

With no rush whatsoever, I treated myself to some TLC for the next hour or so.

Just as I finished applying the clay mask on my face, my phone rang with an incoming call.

I jogged to the bedroom, and unplugged my phone from the charger.

It was Sam again.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer. If I put the phone to my ear, I would smear my face mask and get it all over my phone screen. That was why I couldn’t take Sam’s call. And also because I wished I could evade speaking to him for a while longer. Yes, mostly because of that.

But he was my boss. The call could be about work. I couldn’t ignore work calls because of my silly actions, courtesy of my raging libido.

With a sigh, I hit the green button and put it on speaker. “Morning, Sam.”

“Morning? Tell me you did not just wake up.”

His husky chuckle reverbed from the speaker straight to my eardrum and vibrated down to my core.

“No. I was in the shower.”

“Oh.” This time, there was a silent pause on the other end of the line. My words had probably projected specific images for his mind’s eye to gawk at.

“I forgot to return your coat.” I blurted to break the ensuing awkwardness.

“That’s fine. Just bring it with you to the office.”

He made that sound easy. Like it was nothing out of the ordinary to walk into the workplace with my boss’s coat in the crook of my arm, which I couldn’t disguise as my own because I would be wearing another coat myself. A pink or blue coat. Definitely not a black one like Sam’s. I never wore black.

“Lucille, about last night…”

“Let’s not talk about it.” The words shot out of my mouth too fast.

“We could do that, yes. But doesn’t that make it worse? To just shove it under the carpet when you will be looking at the same carpet every day?”

Was he referring to himself as a carpet?

“What’s there to say, Sam? You’re my boss. I was drunk. I wouldn’t have…” I lowered my voice as if someone could hear the conversation on speaker. “…done thatotherwise.”

“But I still might have.”

“Sam…”

“I know, too bold but it’s the truth. You hypnotized me last night. If I’d gone by my instincts, I would have stripped out of the clothes you got wet on me and I would have done more than just kiss you.”

Fuck. Nowhiswords had me gawking at the images flashing in my mind of him without any clothes. I needed to steer away from the subject. Fast. “I’ll be back to work tomorrow.”
