Page 90 of Deadly Match

I mumble incoherently, letting my girl jump off my cock in favor of finding something to put on. She plucks my T-shirt off the floor and pulls it over her small frame, the hem hitting just an inch above her knees. The corner of my lips lifts into a smile from seeing her in my clothes, her skin still smelling of me. She might have loved her father first, but I’m the one who has staked my claim on her in every way imaginable.

“Don’t just sit there and gawk at me,” she reprimands, throwing a pair of boxers on top of the bed. “Put those on before my dad breaks your door.”

We hear a loud crash, followed by, “Zoey Johnson, get your ass out here this instant!”

“Too late.” I shrug, getting to my feet and putting my boxers on just as I was told.

“What am I going to do with you both?” She rolls her eyes while putting on her panties.

“Let’s see what my future father-in-law wants, shall we?” I say, slapping her ass and giving her a little wink.

Zoey’s cheeks turn the most beautiful shade of crimson, and her eyes widen as she stares at me, gobsmacked.

“Father-in-law?” she chokes out, no longer in a hurry to meet her father.

“Later, little doe. Let’s deal with Alaric first.”

She gapes at me, her jaw still on the floor for a full ten seconds, before she snaps out of her shock.

“Zoey! I said now!” Alaric shouts from my living room.

I guess I should be grateful that he had the good sense not to search every room in my house to look for his daughter. With his temper, I’d be a dead man if he caught me in bed with his little girl, that much I know.

“Come on, little doe. Your father is waiting,” I tease, and right now, not even Alaric’s temper tantrum can ruin my happiness.

She gives me a nod and links her fingers through mine as we both step into the corridor and walk toward the living room. When we finally reach it, we see Alaric didn’t come alone.

Layla stands beside him looking just as furious as her husband.

“I’m so sorry, Gray, for my husband’s behavior. He’s been acting extra Neanderthal lately,” she says with a deep frown, crossing her arms over her chest.

“Don’t apologize for me, wife. It’s these two you should be pissed at. Not me,” Alaric growls, giving me his deadly glare.

“Don’t tell me how I should feel, husband. Right now, I’m disappointed with all of you,” she rebukes sternly.

“At me? What did I do?” Zoey asks in surprise.

Layla’s eyes soften as she approaches her sister and places both hands on her shoulders.

“I’m happy that you’re happy, Zoey. I really am. But that doesn’t mean you should neglect your responsibilities. Alaric and I went over to your dorm this morning, and we found out that you haven’t been attending classes since Easter break ended. Now I understand how someone can get consumed in a new relationship, but you shouldn’t let it derail you from your future.”

My forehead wrinkles. I’m completely taken aback since I, too, thought Zoey was still on a break. Before I’m able to question her about it, she shocks me further.

“I’m not going back to school. I decided to quit.”

“The hell you did!” Alaric shouts, stepping closer to her. On reflex, I step in front of Zoey and push her behind me.

“Move away from my daughter if you know what’s good for you,” he growls in my face.

“No. Let her say her piece.”

The room grows so silent we can all hear Alaric’s back molars grind.

Before I can stop her, Zoey steps away from me, standing right in the crosshairs of her father’s wrath.

“College isn’t for me, Dad. It never was. I tried to tell you that from the get-go, but you two were so eager for me to get my degree that I didn’t have the heart to tell you.”

Layla takes this admission at face value, but she still looks concerned with her sister’s decision to quit school.
