Oh, Cole. My heart melts a bit. Here is this man, this obviously hurting beautiful man, and he’s opening himself to me, letting himself be vulnerable.

It only sucks me in more.

I’m such a sucker.

“I’ve never told that to anyone.” He watches the fire for a moment before he turns back to me.

“Thanks for opening up. Life ain’t easy, that’s for damn sure.”

Cole nods. “Damn straight.” He checks his phone. “Shit, it’s after three already. I have to work in the morning.” He runs his hands along his face and downs the rest of his beer.

My stomach sinks. I don’t want this night to end. I haven’t enjoyed a man’s company in a long time.

“Want me to help you find your friend one more time?” He stands, brushing the sand off his shorts before reaching his hand out to me.

I slide my hand into his, and he pulls me to a stand. “That’d be great. She’s actually my ride.”

“If we can’t find her, I can get you home.”

Oh God, do I want him to take me home. I don’t want our night to end.

“Come on, I know this beach inside and out. She can’t be far. Plus, I live on the north end of the shoreline if we get tired.” He tosses me a wink.

If he only he knew, I’m already tired.

Calm down those hormones, Addi.

You can hump a tree later.

It’s close enough to a man, right?
