Page 39 of Crashing Together

“You clean and on the pill? Hate condoms.” He forces the words out between groans and kisses.

Another unexpected question.

We've always used condoms.

With a quick decision, I nod, and that’s all he needs.

Cole pushes inside me in one thrust of his hips.

And then he fucks me against the door until we both fall to the ground in a heap.

Cole

I watch Addi as she dips her paintbrush in, swirling the colors gently before swiping it across the white canvas, a perfect line forming a perfect shape.

If I tried that, it’d look like a long wiggly line finger-painted by a toddler.

“Now, you try.” Addi hands me the paintbrush with such a cute smile on her face. What has this girl done to me? I’m turning to mush the more time we spend together.

Me learning how to paint?

What in the fuck is going on here?

“Come on, one try?”

I grab the paintbrush and dip it in the paint like she showed me. With a long sweep of my hand, the line travels across the canvas fast and messy, a glob of paint leaking down from where my brush first touched the thick white material.

Addi doesn’t say anything, her eyes downcast, but one look at me, and we both burst out laughing. “Wow, Cole. I think a five-year-old could do better.”

“Hey!” I swat at her with the paintbrush, and she squeals, jumping out of her seat.

“You better not!”

“Oh, I better not, huh?” I’m up a second later, chasing after her, the paintbrush in my hand a fun threat to both of us.

She thinks she’s fast, but I’m faster, and my fingers grab the loop on her jean shorts as she tries to get away. I spin her toward me and land the paintbrush right on her cheek as she cries out in laughter.

I haven’t had this much fun in a long, long time.

Somehow, Addi manages to grab the paintbrush from me, catching me when I wasn’t trying hard enough, and she gets me back, paint flying across my face. She tosses the paintbrush across the room and falls across my lap as she tries to catch her breath.

“I need a shower now,” Addi groans.

“How about that surfing lesson now? We’ll wash off in the ocean.”

“Good idea. Race you.” Addi jumps up, flying up the stairs before I can even process what she said. A second later, I’m right behind her, grabbing at her waist.

On Monday nights, no one is around. Both the beach and shop are quiet and free from crowds. We ate dinner with Gramps earlier, and while I promised the guys I’d meet up for a beer soon, I find myself not wanting to leave Addi.

Time spent with her is fun and pulls my mind away from the shit that swarms inside it. She’s sex and lust, and everything I love about the beach and the ocean.

And that’s what scares me.

We agreed.

No feelings, no relationships, and especially no love.
